Christmas Advent Calendar - How to make pockets from the blocks
Once you’ve made your block. Trim the block to ½” seam allowances.
The backing pocket is a piece of fabric the same width as the block but twice the length. Fold the fabric lengthways and trim to size.
The length of the lining piece doesn’t have to be exact but the width does.
Lay the block onto the lining (right sides together) and stitch the top edge within the ½” seam allowance.
Turn the work to the right side and under-stitch (on the edge of the lining) with all the seams folding in one direction to the lining. Fold and press the top edge of the block.
Turn the work over and fold the lining up ¾” up from the raw edge of the block. Pin into place.
Stitch down on both side of the block (on the ½” stitching line) to hold the lining into place and to make the pocket.
Trim any excess fabric from the top of the block back to a generous ½” seam allowance. Be careful not to catch the edge of the pocket into the seam when joining you blocks together when making the Advent Calendar wall hanging.
