This little case is so simple, and not just for sunglasses!
Here's what you need:
1 outer, 1 lining fabric and 1 fusible fleece [H640] each measuring 8.5” x 13” [22cm x 33cm] [non-directional print]
Erasable marker pen and ruler if you’d like to quilt the fabric
Magnetic snap
Cup or mug to use as a template to curve the corners
Hand sewing needle
1. Fuse fleece to the wrong side of the outer fabric
2. Draw around the mug to curve the top two corners of both fabrics
3. Draw diagonal lines across the top fabric in two directions and sew to quilt [optional]
4. Fit the thinner part of the magnetic clasp centrally to the top of the curved end of the lining, 1.5” from the top
5. Fit the fatter half of the snap to the outer fabric, centrally 2” [5cm] from the straight edge
6. Sew the two pieces right sides together across the short straight edge
7. Turn over and top stitch across the seam
8. Fold the bottom of the case so that the outer fabric is right sides together, by 3.5” [9cm]
9. Sew 2.5” [6.5cm] along one side
10. Fold the lining pieces right sides together so that the curved ends meet, sew all around, apart from the 2.5” [6.5cm] section you’ve already sewn and the folded base of the case
11. Turn the right side out
12. Hand sew the opening closed
13. Push the lining inside the case and press
14. Top stitch around the flap [optional]

love these. So cute. I often use magnetic snaps for my totes and I would just like to suggest adding an additional layer of fabric/batting under the snaps so they are sturdier and don’t eventually pull through fabric. I just cut out a small piece just a bit bigger than the snap. Thanks for the tutorial!

Cant stop making these, I love them. Your standard size fits my phone exactly and I have increased the size just to use up left over fabric and they are all so nice. Quilted some, others left plain and each just a lovely as the other. Thank you again Debbie

Most excellent tutorial- clear, organised, extensive enough (e.g to use non-directional fabric) to ensure a successful outcome project for the viewer, yet without tons of superfluous, irrelevant and distracting chatter. I’ve watched a heap of these glasses tutorials by now and yours is the best by miles. Also love that the glasses case is turned inside out discreetly via a small side opening and not ( as with most) right at the front which leaves an untidy, unattractive front flap. Thank you very much, great job.

Awesome project and as you said, the size can be adjusted. My sunglasses are extra large to fit over prescription glasses and it’s so hard to find a case to fit. This is perfect, and so easy. Many thanks.

Made 3 for masks 😷 great idea and easy make. I quilted the last 2 which stops creases and prefer the firmness it gives as you said. Everyone might get one for Christmas along with a tote bag. Maybe the one in your book “ secrets from the sewing room” I’m addicted to magnetic snaps too- also in that book. Thanks Debbie

I got the PANASONIC CORDLESS IRON.....I think you would love it....I am so glad I got it.....it has changed my sewing world..I actually enjoy my work now....I hate seeing you struggle with that tiny iron..I used to have that one and it was just awful....toxic fumes from the teflon too....my new panasonic cordless iron had NO fumes even from day one.....can't recommend it enough....I don't know if you can get it on amazon where you are...but it is soooooo worth it......that little iron doesn't even do anything.....

Do you think the decovil under the fleece would work to give the case a stronger protective body for the glasses and can it still be quilted? I’m short on the fabric with eyes or glasses on it so want to save enough to make my Sis and coworkers a case for Christmas. My Sis, Jackie, carries many things in her bag? The large hard cases are cumbersome so I would like to find her an alternative. I was thinking of putting a pocket for her glasses cleaner, shammy, and matching face mask. Would love your thoughts! Another wonderful tutorial, Debbie! You’re the best! 💜

hi debbie im a reaaly experienced machinist lol however its my first time making this glasses case its going well upto the point of where you sew up the side approx 2 and half inches ? the turning gap? ive done mine but i must be going wrong somewere as when i turned it through not only has the lining the lining got a small gap but so as the fabric bag?i follwed exactly what you put? could you point me in the right direction of where its gone wrong please? x

at 08:31 you sew the outer pieces together along one side, then at 10:21 sew all around apart from the 2.5" you've just sewn. This makes a seam all around the outer fabric but leaves a gap in the lining. Hope that helps!
