In this sewing and drafting tutorial we will make this super easy and fun top that basically consists from 4 rectangles. Of course we will need to add a few things - but it really is super simple! Use a medium weight knit for the best result, as that is usually a pretty stable choice of knit with good stretch. You will need less than 1 yard of fabric, and sewing machine will do just fine for this - just use a zig-zag stitch! I hope you find inspiration in this video to make your own pretty summer top, so that you can channel your won Retro Diva :)

The thing that frustrates me most in KZfaq tutorials is when they say, "Measure x in/cm", but don't tell you WHY!? Where did that number come from, bc you're tiny and I'm a giant! So THANK YOU SO MUCH for explaining WHERE your numbers come from!!!
@ThoughtfulCreativity

Absolutely, I always try to explain what and why are we doing this and that, because without using your own measurements - you can't construct a garment that will fit you. I am so sorry about your frustration. If you want to watch my knit bodice block video - that one goes in detail about measurements and what goes where. Link is in the infobox.

Just subscribed 5 minute into this video. I sewed for decades from patterns. But now mostly from upcycle clothing. Your instructions are simple and the reasoning explained well. Beginners can go from here to understanding fit and patterns. I took a couple designs classes back in 70s. But I just want some simple reminders and helps me size adjust some patterns I bought for style but too small. I can make fitting overlays! Thanks so much.

Tracy, try to find videos about your brand and model serger. Sewing Parts on Line as some very good serger tutorials for beginners on You Tube. Good Luck. My serger sat in its box for over 5 yes while I got up the nerve to learn to use it. I haven't learned all the stitches yet, but I can thread it. And I can use the 3 and 4 thread overlock. At 68yrs. old I am quite proud of my self. So I understand your fear, but do it. girl and make your sewing life easier.

I absolutely love this top. I may just need to find some fabric and make one. I just made a wrap skirt for my daughter to get married in. She picked out the fabric and I suspect the material is some sort of mystery polyester. Very thin and flowy fabric. So I decided to just use my serger for most of it. I then found the 3 needle rolled edge stitch and I am completely in love as I didn't need to hem the skirt and using a 40 wt glossy Rayon thread, it gave the edge a beautiful professional finished look. I will most definitely use this stitch again, maybe even with this top. Thank you so very much for this video.
@ThoughtfulCreativity
@ThoughtfulCreativity 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, OMG love the rolled hem! You can use it to make scarves, chiffon skirt, pretty tops - yes and yes. I thought about using it on this top, but the "bumpiness" of the fabric just wasn't having it at all... Congrats on your daughter's wedding!

I LOVE this top, but I like my arms covered pretty much all the way to the elbow. Do you think it would work just making the length of the sleeves longer? I'm trying to visualize how the armpit would be addressed, and if lengthening the sleeve would ruin the cute lines. Thank you for all your cool videos!
@ThoughtfulCreativity
@ThoughtfulCreativity 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I don't think it would work with sleeves on like this, I feel it would end up looking like two wings and a fold in the armpit area, BUT you can just make a regular top with square neck and elbow length sleeves, will pretty much give you the same effect.
