Make your own burp cloths with flannel and terry cloth (a towel) with this easy tutorial! If you’re looking for the perfect baby shower gift, or just need extra burp cloths because kids are MESSY, this is the sewing project for you. It’s great for beginners and also great for repurposing old towels (read: cheap, easy, and environmentally friendly - the trifecta!).

What’s your best “my kid is a mess” story? I’ll go first: when tiny squish was a newborn, she projectile pooped (which I didn’t know was even a thing - how did no one warn me?!) straight off the changing table, down the dresser, on the carpet, and onto the wall. Fun times!

I bought the terry cloth as yardage and preshrunk it. Also soaked flannel in hot water and line dried to preshrunk as well

Is your table top made of butcher block grade wood product??? I'm dying every time you use your rotary cutter on it without a protective cutting board underneath the fabric, 😱😱😱😱

Question please. When there is a direction pattern, do you make the direction go on short or long way of cloth? Hope it makes sense. Thanks

Either way! I like to make it go the long way because then I get to see more of the pattern. But either way will work. ☺️

This might be a dumb question but which side is up when placed on your shoulder. Should it be the towel side as it’s the most absorbent?

Not a dumb question! I usually put the flannel side up on my shoulder, because the flannel is still fairly absorbent. And then I use the towel side to wipe up spills and leaks. 😊

If I’m using them for myself I do, but if I’m gifting them I don’t. Once you wash flannel it looks “used” so that’s why I don’t.

Dude its a longgggggggg story but I need to make around 200 with a label attached, could you show this on an overlocker? please help me!!!! i subscribed!!!

Dang, that’s a big order! 😂 I’ve never used an overlocker before, just the overlock stitch on my machine. If I were doing that, I would batch cut the towels and flannel using a template (try folding the flannel so you can cut 2-3 pieces at a time). Then put the towel and flannel wrong sides together. I would use sewing clips instead of pins to make it faster! To add the label, slip it between the layers and pin before you sew. If you were doing it where you have the two layers right sides together (doing a straight stitch) you would put the label inside so that the edge of the label lines up with the edge of the fabric. I hope this all makes sense! Let me know if I can help any other way!!
