If working with cotton fabric and not a knit would also need to consider seam allowance on both garment and added fabric. Also finish the fabric possibly by serging edges to avoid fraying. Something to think about if set in sleeves, not needing full length of a long sleeve enlarged etc… lots of situational details with garment fabric type, where added fabric is desired & added fabric type & weight. You had some good ideas given your desired outcome. I appreciated your idea.

Excellent, thank you! This was very clear, and was just what I needed to enlarge armhole/sleeve area on a bathrobe for my husband. Very helpful. (BTW, it’s really disappointing to see that a few people left such mean comments below. Can those comments be removed?)

I am SOOO very glad I found this video !!! I am needing to enlarge a couple of shirts which I'm gonna try to make a dress out of by sewing them together. And, putting extra fabric underneath the arm area is what I've been wanting to do - TYSM for showing us the proper way to do that procedure.

I would have liked you to put on t- shirt to see results! If it looked good enough to wear out. Also bottom edge was not hemmed. Did it turn out too big.. silly looking 🤔 I’ve been trying myself, but I unpick up to arm hole and add a piece into arm hole to bottom of shirt, gradual v, or I just fold over and sew near arm hole, for larger bust room. Always looking for ideas and technics from others. Thank you

Who needs a before and after photo when the after photo would only be altered by 3 inches? Thank you sew MUCH! This is exactly what I was looking for. I bought an original 100% hemp shirt that Jefferson used to wear on his SLAVE plantation. I split the seam all the way up to the armpit, then used a version of canvas to widen. It's a choice of what fabric to use - hemp is rather stiff for sewing, I suppose you would add some elasticity to the chest with other fabrics. Anyways, you are kind to place this video up, and it definitely instructed me (the choice of fabric) as well as motivated me to get it done (it's easy!) Patrick

Thanks, this video confirmed what I was thinking. Different colored fabric wd have made it easier to see what you were doing, but I understood anyway.

i bought a cosplay jacket for connor from dbh and i got it custom made but my upper arms are very large and the measurement for the upper arms wasnt there so i put my upper arm measurement in the special instructions and the con is in less than 2 days so it would fit if i could get my arms through the sleeves but it stops at my elbows. i am here wondering how i can possibly maybe alter it so it will fit, i can wear it in time and it looks natural. any tips?

It’s difficult to comprehend what’s going on because she doesn’t properly show it on the shirt holding it up. Maybe using a different colour fabric would also help to see what’s done.
