That's great! I've only seen Hong Kong finish one in my life. Most sewists I speak to don't know what it is. I'll say it now. If ever I get into garments, I'll be utilizing these techniques. Thanks!

I learned this technique from Sandra many years ago on See Perfect and I use it all the time As a fellow sewing teacher,this is one of my student's favorite things to do. As a matter of fact ,I'm in the process of making a jacket and I'm finishing my seams with a Hong Kong finish Absolutely love it. Please make more of these videos Ron. Your stitching is so superb. So is your teaching .

It's not the cost of materials that adds up so much, it's the cost of the hours of labor to sew it.

@masakasama because that will cost more and they'll have to increase the price and that's a bad thing in a competitive market because the customers usually compare prices first instead of quality and they go with the cheapest option

Really nice to add to many of my sewing projects. Huh, I had no idea that the double stitching actually had a name or knew how it was done. All this time I believed it was just done with a double needle (I tried with a double needle a few years ago.. and it just didnt turn out nice.. and Wow!! I Love-love the adding of the braided piece on top of the stitching! Would def love to learn more of your ways of sewing ❤️

a HK seam does use bias binding. Well made clothing of suiting fabrics and woolens, always had a silk bias (Hong Kong seam) over the raw edges. All my straight wool skirts had a Hong Kong seam especially if the skirt lining was set into the seams. What was not shown was if and how a HK seam is actually set into or under a seam. These are great short clips. thanks.

@Carylanne927 11 жыл бұрын
Hello Aspen, if I may add here the bias trims sold for quilting and finishes in fashions, totes and other decorative items use the Hong Kong finish. IF you are making any item that requires you to totally hide a seam it is a French Seam that is needed. look inside a pillow case you would find a French seam there. sewing is initially done with wrong sides together and then trimmed and stitched again encasing the first seam. there are several tube videos on this. Hope I helped. Carylanne in TX

I like the idea of decorating the lining of a jacket, either with a fancy stitch or an add on tape. There's a lot more you can do with a semi industrial machine than you can with a domestic one tho. You have to decorate things before they are complete and after any sizing alterations, or its not possible when the garment is assembled. Thx for the inspiration.
@laceandbits
@laceandbits 5 жыл бұрын
"There's a lot more you can do with a semi industrial machine than you can with a domestic one tho" Why? Such as? I was just thinking watching this that my domestic machine has a foot that would feed the braid centrally along the seam making it much easier, quicker and more accurate to follow the seam line whether straight or curved. When to add these finishes needs to be planned but again would be at the same point in the garment construction regardless of the machine used.

@leighlaclaiborne there is an extra fold in a binding finish, so you would fold the bias edge piece until it meets the raw edge of the fabric, then fold again so that the fold you just made will meet the original sewing. There is a video from West Valley College called Basic Seams lesson 3 part 1 at the 51:34 min mark she explains it very well.
