When I realized more designs were possible it was like a light bulb went on for me. It’s helpful to think of it as a mosaic. Any design can be made with mosaic tiles. Same goes for hexagons!

Hi. From Grandma Rose. Use a paper punch the old fashioned kind that makes a hole. Punch holes and every one of your papers. Then I use a crochet hook slip it in and pop it out. I thread baste my hexies just through the fabric and leave the stitching in to help the hexie lay flat as I quilt it. 😊

Quilting has ALWAYS seemed so overwhelming to me. But this looks like so much fun. Would this work using denim fabric? I don’t have any pretty cottons like every EPP video I have seen but I have TUBS AND TUBS of denim that I kept because I really wanted to make a denim quilt. Thank you so much for these beautiful tutorials.
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne 2 жыл бұрын
Denim fabric may be too thick for English paper piecing. However, please experiement! I think it would work as long as your template paper is on the thicker side, like cardstock. You may also need to use a bit more glue to hold the denim to the paper while basting. If you do try it, please let me know how it goes! I love the idea of denim EPP. :D

Great idea. What’s the most hexies you would put in each row?
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne Ай бұрын
That would depend on the size of the project I want to make. For example, I made a seat cover that has nine or ten in each row, whereas my temperature quilt has 24 per row.

I'm so glad! I hope you'll try it. I think you might enjoy it! When I first started, I wasn't sure I would like all the hand sewing. But I ended up falling in love with the process. I use Aurifil 50wt cotton thread for my English paper piecing.

Wish I had have thought my huge 108x108 inch quilt through as you have. I started with hexie flower,. Then built it up from there. The flowers didn’t always fall together, so at the moment it is not square. I wonder what I could do to try and make it this way. Ie any guidelines. Do you have any suggestions at all. Hehe. Live and learn for sure. Ido have carpel tunnel and due to have it operated in in next week or two, so it is getting a bit heavy moving it about. I am left handed which doesn’t always help, your idea is really good I will do it this way next time. Thank you.
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne Жыл бұрын
If you want to make it larger you could add single rows to the outside edge as I show in this video, until it's the size you want. You could also fill in areas using this same method.

I am fascinated with English Paper piecing but one question (and this shows that I am very new to this), are you sewing through the paper?
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne 3 ай бұрын
Great question! The goal is to NOT sew through the paper. However, sometimes the needle may catch a bit of the edge of the paper by accident.

I am making a 7ft x 7ft quilt with EPP. And the backing is hexiform not card, I am 14 rows up at the moment , there are 40 hexies in each row, it is getting very heavy, ang suggestions, I am also left handed. It’s surprising what being left handed makes a difference to how your showing me. All suggestions I would be very grateful for. I have never seen needle miners before. As I live in the Uk, you sound as if you make do not, otherwise I would buy one. From you.
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne 3 ай бұрын
That sounds like a wonderful quilt you are making. Yes, as EPP quilts grow they become heavier and more difficult to manage. Since you are using hexiform, it doesn't sound like you can remove the papers which would help reduce the weight. You may want to try using a pillow or table or something to help support the weight of the quilt while you work on it. Needle minders are available from some UK sellers on Etsy and Amazon. Hope these suggestions help! Best wishes. :D

Is removing papers true for a large project such as a twin quilt? I heard removing before you're done compromises the shape and stretches the fabrics?!

I would remove the papers only as needed. With a larger project like a quilt, you may find that removing the papers makes for easier maneuverability of the project while you work on it.
