HOW TO SHARPEN HEDGE TRIMMER BLADES

Are your trimmers dull & tearing at shrubs instead of cutting them???
You don't have to throw them away.......
Every few seasons I need to start with a clean slate, & totally clean / sharpen the blades on my Stihl gas hedge trimmers.
It's not as complicated of a job as you might think. Here's how to do it!
(Make sure you spray WD-40 or similar product on the blades when done, & away after a job when you put them away)
NOTE: The same methods / principles work on any hedge trimmer that have removable blades

The product arrived undamaged and in a great looking box all parts of the kit were present kzfaq.infoUgkx010hhy8hzepHnne4VtzOtUictDZeYMTF and I can't wait to use it. I'm most impressed by the fact that it's a five piece kit, of great monetary value in that you can get this all for such a price. With this my former grip strength will come back and then some. I'm already starting notice a bit of a difference after using it for a bit now, and the stress ball and doughnut shaped grip designed to be carried in the pocket have helped in reducing my stress levels as of late. Would definitely recommend!

Thanks for tuning in- I always try & give the bad with the good, discovering what works & what doesn't as I go through the repair process. I also try to be cognisant to not ramble too much either lol

I use a belt sander with a rest I set at the correct angle. I measure the original angle to keep the blade as original as I can. Also, I have shears where the blades are hard chrome plated and the sap does not stick as it does on steel. Also, alcohol will remove the sap. My shears are by Shindiawa, and they aren’t cheap, but they have really held up well.

The owners manual specifically states not to fill the gearbox with grease, and to not add more than 5 grams of grease

the blades are hardened steel. File isn't going to touch them unless you have expensive 'diamond files'. Plus a dremel is cheaper & more precise, & I already had it in the tool closet

Dear god thats not how you remove the gunk. Use a wire wheel, it is more effective and you dont sand down the metal like your doing. And to sharpen the blades use a cutting wheel instead with a flexible shaft to control the cutting wheel better when using it to grind flat.

a flexible shaft is.... flexible. I have better control with a fixed shaft. I'm also barely taking any metal off with it; just enough to touch up the edge. The motor will wear out long before I run out of metal to touch up on the blades. The grinding wheel is much finer grit than a cutting wheel, so why would I use that? There's multiple ways to skin a cat; this is mine & it's worked fine for over 25 years
