Honing steels don’t sharpen the blade, and pull through knife sharpeners offer temporary fixes with risks of damaging blades. Your best bet is to learn how to utilize a whetstone. It’s the only way to truly sharpen your knife and prevent further damage.

I bought the PRO EDGE and I regret it. First, the PRO EDGE breaks the blade edge. In addition, the function for adjusting the angle is incorrectly complained about and one side of the sharpening function is already stuck after two days.

Well maybe do some research and get a proper sharpener personality i use lanskys jig with diamond hones these sharpeners should only be used for really cheap knives even then its almost better to buy a new one the rod shown in the video is actually fairly good but you need a ceramic one as he states the steel isn't hard enough

Can you make a compare between a Ceramic a Steel and a Diamond sharpener?
@darthanubis4204
@darthanubis4204 Жыл бұрын
steels suck, like the one that comes with the kitchen set. Ceramic and Diamond stones are top end. Diamond can be really abrasive to put a new edge or fix deep chips but they tend to wear down faster and even more so with softer steel cause it catches the diamond more, they also dont form dips because its solid metal. ceramic are great to put on the final edge, they hardly ever form dips and if they do you can flatten it with a diamond stone. Ceramic also doesnt lose its grit, it just needs to be cleaned (like other stones). take a look at Outdoors55, lots of great info on everything for sharpening.

Do you have a specific sharpening stone that you recommend?
@darthanubis4204
@darthanubis4204 Жыл бұрын
I use the spyder co ceramic medium grit. it's about $80 but it can put an edge on round steel if you put in enough time. If the stone ever forms a dip, which should happen almost never because its ceramic, you can flatten it with a DMT diamond stone which is the other stone I use (heavy grit) to fix really bad chips, which the ceramic could still do but wayyy slower. The DMT stone I got was also around $50. After sharpening I highly recommend using a strop with some type of compound on it to remove the burr to complete the process. go take a look at outdoors55, he has a great channel for everything you need to know about sharpening.

Water sharpening grinder. Wen makes one for 140
@darthanubis4204
@darthanubis4204 Жыл бұрын
@@patrickglaser1560 those a great, but 140 is pricey especially for a stone that will hollow out way more often than ceramic and you have to soak them when you use them. Ceramic is either way, just depends on if I feel like cleaning up a bunch of water. Hollowing out is the biggest issue because it will mess up your edge if you dont notice it, which most beginners wont.

What do you think of diamond steels? I had the ezelap 1000 grit 6" in my fishing bag for yearssss and used it once a month maybe twice a month and I was always so happy with it for the effectiveness/time spent. Quick enough to get sharp again if I've been cutting bait (bone and scales) with my filleting knife yet with a few strops on my shirt like 5 a side it was still a good enough finish to make skinning easy as with no nicks or splits. I ended up using that little thing on my axes and machetes for a bit too and it still did alright.
@darthanubis4204
@darthanubis4204 Жыл бұрын
diamond stones are great, it usually comes down to preference. they can tend to wear down faster than other types of stones and using a softer steel will wear it faster and itll lose its abrasiveness. On the plus side diamond stones dont form dips in them (because its diamond in steel) causing you to damage your blade and they come in lower grits to really grind out your blade. Other than a diamond stone I would recommend a ceramic stone. they never lose abrasiveness unless it's clogged and needs to be cleaned (like most stones) and it also hardly ever forms a dip, if it does you can flatten it with a diamond stone. go take a look at Outdoors55 channel. great sharpening info.
@thiago.assumpcao
@thiago.assumpcao Жыл бұрын
Diamond stones may fracture carbides and reduce edge durability. That doesn't always happen but it's a frequent issue. If you like to use it I would compare edge durability with an Aluminum oxide stone that leaves similar aggressive edge. Maintenance on AlOx stones are quite fast too.

@michaelbini1103
@michaelbini1103 Жыл бұрын
Bayonets are normally not sharpened. I do have one that is but don't use the steel to do it. A steel is for honing. It can sharpen knives but would take a long time depending on what steel you have. If the bayonet has a more rounded bevel you'll need it profiled to an appropriate angle on both sides probably 21 or keep it simple with 20, pretty much the same. Get a stone and practice if you don't like it there are a lot of shops that sharpen for a fairly enexpensive fee.
