This is a basic catapult techniques and demonstration video brought to you by WildMan.
In this video I go over stance, safety, aiming techniques, ammunition and target set up.
I may have missed out a few things but I’m in no way a professional, however I hope I can share my knowledge with what is quite a challenging task on its own.

Thank you. I think the thing you was alluding to is called "Flow" it's intuitive muscle memory... and its a force to behold when in a "flow" state.. They reckon 10,000 hours equals proficiency... 30,000 hours or times and you start to attain "flow state" and every practice builds toward this in everything we do. Loved the video, many thanx. And hello from Sussex. X

I never knew about holding the slingshot in the left hand. I’ll give it a try. I’m right handed and right eye dominant too but have always held it in my right hand and used it like I would a bow. Nice video, many thanks from Wales.

I did the same thing when I was a kid, I'm still shooting 'cack handed. I don't fancy relearning from scratch, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. 👍

We used to use catapults when I was younger, my cousins and I. We would use it for water balloons though. It was super fun. We would shoot them across long distances, and they would always hit somebody. Lol lol. Good job with your catapult. I bet if you practice some more, you'll get spot-on with the targets. Nice video. I have this BB gun rifle that I use to practice shooting with. And at first, I wasn't really good at hitting the cans, but after a little bit, I got way better at it. I was shooting them out and knocking them down. LOL. 😁😎🌲🌳

Water balloons is a great idea, I’ll need to try that sometime! I’ve used BB rifles before, they’re good fun! I’ll need to get back using the catapult, I’ve not used it in a while I’m running low on ammo, I’ll get some more.

I recently dug out my old Black Widow, i find that my shots go well low of where i'm aiming, i will give the sideways aiming technique a try when i get the chance to head outside again, is this technique good for aiming with a Diablo too? also whil i'm here, do you know where the grey Barnett bands are at inregards to power? i know the red are magnum power and the tan ones are generally fitted to most models... are the grey ones mid range? i will be needing spare sets in the near future so any help will be greatly appreciated
@WildManFrizzell
@WildManFrizzell 3 жыл бұрын
snuffmoviestar Hi, thanks very much for watching!! The sideway technique has helped me with all catapults but some catapults I prefer to hold at like a 45 degree angle, it really depends on how you and your catapult feels. The grey band I’ve saw was the same as the natural tan one so it could be possible that the red is the only power band? I could be wrong. Best thing to do is take all your catapults and bands, set up targets and spend a good few hours taking shots and writing down how you took that shot and over time you’ll be shooting like a pro! 💪🏼

@@WildManFrizzell Ahhh good. It also occurs to me that a large magnet on a rope would allow fast pickup without even bending over. a 3 x 5 x 2 magnet now is stuck onto my garage people door. It did not cost all that much.

Hello mate, good idea to put the blanket behind the targets, if you put another blanket on the ground below it would be easier to find the ball bearings as they drop down onto that rather than the leaves etc on the ground which is more difficult to spot, just an idea, cheers 👍🏻

The key to shooting these or any primitive weapon is not to use some aiming apparatus. you just have to practice with 100s of shots. You can use an aiming device but it’s not like a rifle with adjustable sights. You really have to get a feel for it and how you shoot it. I recommend not using sights and just get a feel for where it’s going to hit. You’ll be surprised at how accurate you can get and how fast you can shoot without using sights.
@WildManFrizzell

I don’t actually mention sights in this video. I mention using reference points or intuitive aiming which is what you’re referring to and it’s also my favourite method

To make it cheaper for amunition for catapults my cousin used to use raw iron ore pellets (half inch iron ore balls) he found them ideal for vermin and even larger game with the black widow catapult. With having familly working on the bulk terminal the iron ore was imported meant these could be got free.

The wrist brace angles always feel wrong. With it on it never feels same way as I would hold a bracelets slingshot. Lasers and gimmicks cos the beam always lit same place from same distance. It doesn't take into account if your bands 1degree off from sighting you will never hit target.

Jack Dawson the video kind of explains the different methods and techniques used when operating a catapult. I either like to look at something and take a shot without thinking, that’s called intuitive aiming but I also sometimes like to aim by turning the catapult on its side.

You realise those trees you bashed nails into may bleed out and die when the sap begins to flow for harvest right?

A nail sized hole in a Silver Birch during Winter is not going to cause any massive loss of sap. But it would have been better to simply run the paracord around the tree a couple of times to secure the blanket.
