Shooting a bow from a tree stand is completely different from the ground and in this video we’ll demonstrate shot placement as well as how to aim from an elevated position with any bow!

The nice thing about having an upstairs balcony on the back side of the house. Easy tree stand practice.

Guys please wear your safety harness even when practicing at home. I just had a close friend with 45+ years of experience due due to a fall while climbing a tree. When climbing please use your fall restraint on the way up and way down. Happy and safe hunting to all!

When up in the tree stand before coming down from a deer hunt, I take a practice arrow and shoot at a fallen leaf that stands out from the rest of the leaves. I choose the leaf that is on the deer trail where I expect the deer to be.. sooo much fun when you hit the leaf or 2 inches off from the leaf you aimed for. What a good feeling builds confidence!!!.. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!!

I just turned 69 years old. I'm making the move from compound to traditional. I watched you building hunting arrows and did it and it worked great with 200 grains on the front. My question is do you have a video building 3d competition lite weight arrows? Love your videos keep them coming

Have killed a few deer off the ground with a bow, but statistically, it is an insane challenge, especially for an archer new to traditional equipment and its limitations. Low misses are way better than high hits for sure. At least you get your arrow back and the deer gets to run away unharmed to be hunted another day. Tree stand is the ticket in so many ways. It allows a deer to approach extremely close without detecting you both with scent and being above their line of sight. You can also get away with more movement drawing your bow. Blood trails are unpredictable, but even on decent high hits, no blood trail can mean no whitetail. Low exits definitely increase the odds. I usually sit in the stand and stay perfectly quiet for about 30 minutes after a shot. Sometimes the deer will go just out of sight and bed down. If you immediately start climbing down, start talking on your cell phone etc., the bedded deer may hear you before it has time to expire and get up and run off reducing the chance of a recovery. Thanks for all the great info. Aim low, or watch them go!

@Gcr0003 I’m hoping the arrow build I got is in the ball park I have Easton carbon legacy cut to 30.5 with 100 grain inserts and will be shooting at least 125 broad heads or more depending as long as the spine isn’t weak I’ll just go up in broad head weight I have a 29” draw but the bow will be 57# at full draw so I’m hoping the 400 spine will be sufficient my taw is around 560-585 with a 150 grain but like I said I will go up in weight as long as it’s not to weak but hope I’m not wasting money

You’ll probably be fine just have to see what you can get by with on point weight, it’s possible you might have to go with a 340 but hopefully the 400’s will tune good and every bow is different.

Man i am stoked just got the new slick stick and my build flys great with it I got lucky I guess but now im shooting decent but I can’t really find my natural anchor point it’s kinda weird I feel more accurate snap shooting but im not touching my face that I can tell and when I consciously try to make an anchor everything feels off do you have any helpful tips on that im shooting three under with 7 3/8 brace height

@yournotthatguypal9749 you should be fine with that arrow setup, could likely get away with a little more than that up front. I'm drawing 50# @ 28" and I'm using a warrior 400 cut to 30.5 with 310gr on the front and my total arrow weight is right around 575-580. With 250 or so up front and the additional 7 pounds of draw weight you may be slightly weak but you can always use a lumenok and stiffen it up slightly and likely be just fine. Won't know until you test that theory though 😅

I sure can my friend, there is a bow that’s in my honest opinion better than anything five times it’s price just a super performer and it’s a Toparchery recurve on Amazon, I’ve bought a couple of the 60” and just ordered their elite version which is a 58” and man are they beautiful! All you need to do is run Velcro under the limb butts and on the string groves plus ditch the cheap Dacron string and order a TTT Fast Flight Flemish from TTT Strings on their Facebook page and you’ll have an absolute beast recurve for a little of nothing, that way you can order a Selway slide on quiver and buy some good arrows & broadheads all for less than most bows alone! I’ve got several friends shooting them and they are in love 👍🏻

Thanks man I went ahead and ordered a slick stick 58” 55# at 28” draw my draw is 29 inches so I’m assuming I’m looking at a57# draw weight with that said it comes with a Flemish twist string and I got wool silincers for it as well and a mini 4 arrow quiver and have it set up for three under draw I ordered 400 spine Easton legacy trads and 75 grain inserts they are going to be cut at 30.5” I’m hoping that will get me pretty close to being tuned and I also got 100 and 150 grain tips I’m thinking my total arrow weight will be between 560 and 585 what do you think about it all am I in the ball park or am I way wrong like I said I used to go recurve but have been mainly compound and I wanted to go back to trad now so any information on the set up is greatly appreciated

I am curious how far that deer target is in the video. Also how far will you shoot at a deer from a treestand. I know all situations are different. I Always enjoy your videos sir very informative thank you.

Absolutely, this setup was only 10 yards and the longest kill I’ve made was last year on a buck actually my best traditional deer ever at 32 yards, I don’t like to shoot that far but I had him in an opening looking away just couldn’t let him walk off lol

Hey man I just as of now decided to make the choice to go back trad I purchased a slick stick bodnik hybrid reflex deflex long bow 58 “ 55#@. 28” I used to shoot instinct with a recurve but for the past 7 years I’ve been shooting compound and worried I lost my instinct shooting ability I shoot three under do you have any information on the bow I bought and how you feel about it and my choice please and thanks love your videos and information your amazing archer

I have the same bow. It’s a great shooting bow for the price and I love their warranty for a bow I’ll be pretty hard on in the hunting woods. I took a small 7 point with mine last season. This is my second year hunting with it. It’s a very quiet bow. I prefer a low brace height but you can play with that to see what shoots well for you and your arrows. I’m shooting 630 TAW with 200gr VPA 3 blade. The bow is a little on the lighter side which I like but once you add a quiver and arrows it balances out very well. Good luck getting back into traditional archery! kzfaq.infoX4KgvPEiPc0?si=X-1cTzd0ROUIjnFj
