The other day I watched another video on this that was about 15 minutes long. I tried it, and only ended up with a picture of the object at the start and the beginning, at best. After watching this, I managed to get the desired effect right away, first try, and consistently. Straight to the point, no dilly dallying and well, the info was all relevant, so I grasped it and didn't lose track. Thank you!

Hey Ben, you don’t need to, but there is a new godox trigger that helps with ttl and so on. Godox xpro II L . The advantage I see that ttl can go lower that what the manual mode can do. And you can use it for the other leicas if you have. I found that the Sl2s works now perfectly with the new trigger too. Cheers

sorry what speed camera did u use? and how about the power for the flash when u using repeating menu?how to set your camera focus beacause u r not behind kamera thx alot
@timfordphoto6 жыл бұрын
Shutter speed is discussed at the 2:48 section of the video. Flash power depends on what you are shooting (you would just need to experiment with it until you get it where you want it). I would start around 1/32nd power. Focusing is discussed at the 3:16 mark. I have a write-up on my website about using a stroboscopic flash if you'd prefer a text only version. You can see that here - timfordphoto.com/how-to-shoot-stroboscopic-flash-photos/. Hope this helps!

Congratulations on the video tutorials, very inspiring! If possible given my bad English, I didn't understand how many seconds to set the camera ?? thanks
@timfordphoto3 жыл бұрын
The simple equation is total flashes you'll be using (in my example, it's the 2nd number from the left on the flash I'm showing, which is 10) divided by flashes per second (in my example, it's the 3rd number from the left on the flash I'm showing, which is 5). So in the video, I did 10 divided by 5, which is 2. So I used a 2 second exposure. If you were doing something like 25 flashes total, with 5 flashes per second, your shutter speed would be 5 seconds (25 divided by 5). Hope this helps!

Hello Tim, great video. I have a question; can I use Canon 580 EX II with Panasonic Lumix gh5? will I be able to achieve the stroboscopic effect? if not, what do you recommend as Speedlight to use with Panasonic GH5?
@timfordphoto6 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know, I'm not too familiar with the Panasonic line of cameras. My only experience with this flash has been using it on either a Canon camera or a Sony A7R (which does work, by the way). The flash settings are all manual though, so if you discover that your Panasonic can fire the Canon flash, everything else should work just fine.
@moephotographic6 жыл бұрын
Tim Ford Thank you very much, some blogs say if the flash settings are manual then it should work fine. Another question if I may, do I need the flash trigger if I'm only behind the camera and not the subject?
@timfordphoto6 жыл бұрын
You need a way to fire the flash no matter what, but it can be on the camera. As long as the flash is pointing at your subject at an angle that works for you, it should be fine. Apologies if that was confusing in the video.

I am not getting much seperation between the object and the background , the object stays very blurry, the background is in focus, and it don't matter what f stop i use, any ideas? @tim ford
@timfordphoto3 жыл бұрын
Try using manual focus. I know it's harder, but that's the only way to be sure the camera won't try to focus on the background. It'll take some trial and error to get it where it needs to be but it's worth the hassle.
@trancer033 жыл бұрын

Hi... What the f stop and shutter speed you used
@timfordphoto6 жыл бұрын
You’ll need to do several test shots In order to figure out your f-stop settings, although you do want to stay away from anything lower than around 5.6. Lower f-stops mean shorter depth of field, which in this case is a bad thing. You are shooting something that has a range of motion, so you are better off working with an f-stop that gives you a bit more depth of field so that everything remains in focus. You can also use ISO to adjust your exposure, though these shots have a lot of black in them so if your camera doesn’t handle high ISO very well, I wouldn’t go above 800. I shot my test shots at 200 ISO. You’ll also need to determine the best placement of your flash. In my case, I had the flash on a light stand at around four feet in height, and it sat about a foot and a half away from what I was shooting (and off to the left). You don’t want the flash too close to your subject, otherwise you’ll actually see the bursts of light from the flash at the edge of your shot. Watch the video to better see where the flash was placed. For the shutter speed, you need to do some very simple math. The goal is to have the shutter open for as many flashes as you have the speedlite set for. In my example, I’m doing 10 flashes total, with the key being that there are five flashes per second. So to figure out how long to have your shutter open in order to capture all ten flashes, just divide the total number of flashes (10) by the flashes per second (5). In this case, the shutter speed would be 2 seconds (10 / 5 = 2).
