In response to several viewer requests here is a demo on how to remove mould lines on difficult to get to areas on plastic space marine models. Clean up is carried out on a plasma coil, picatinny rail and base plate of a boltgun magazine.

That really looks time consuming but having spend a whole afternoon taking the horns out of ten of my poxwalkers I think I can spend a little bit more on the weapons. Thank you really much, I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I feel this hobby benefits a lot from people like you sharing techniques and tips.

+Evelio Mora That's an interesting change to the Poxwalkers, I bet they look quite different now. Your most welcome for the video, I like doing stuff like this to share my experiences and they are very easy to produce. I'm always open to suggestions of demos of other techniques I use if it helps you out. Thanks for watching :)

I know you've probably moved on from this, but the way I get the mouldline out from the low parts of the coil is with a piece of sewing cotton. It's easiest to do if you have a small vise and secure the plasma weapon in it, then use a decent length of cotton to "saw" across the depressions. Then you're just left with the easy raised parts. Thanks for the video in any case.

Great! This is just what I was looking for. I would not have thought breaking it down in to steps would be easier or faster but from watching I can see that it is. Thank you for the video LC

There we go, Cheese! Much better. Though how did you square dressing up the Cheeselets as loo roll mummies with Mrs Leakycheese to liberate all those rolls? Nostalgia is very satisfied and I had to explain to Mrs Graygor why I was laughing like a madman in my office so there is karma balancing things out. Looking forwards to the next vid where you show us how to make Tracey Island with tape, paint and paper mache.

Cheers matey, I had a lot fun doing that and just about managed it with a straight face! Build your own Tracey Island? That idea could get rebooted with a Castellum Stronghold? Maybe one rainy day.... As for Mrs. Leakycheese, as long as she doesn't look in the recycling bin I've got away with it. Two more days until rubbish collection and I'm safe! Thanks for watching :)

These are some of the hardest areas and types of mould lines you are going to encounter. I use the back of the tip of a #11 X-acto blade and use it to scrape along each tooth or groove after I have scraped over the top in the normal mould removal process. This extra scrape along each tooth/groove will clean out the excess plastics, but will also scrape out the mould line it normally cant reach.

Hi, might i suggest strips of sanding belts or abrasive cloth (i think that is what it is called in english). 600 to 800 grains should suffice. I have a roll of 600 and i tear of a strip 5 cm long and it is 2,5 cm wide. With the torn rugged side you can remove moldlines on uneven surfaces like a dragons scales or the belly of a Troll, the sanding side of course for flat areas and the smooth long sides are perfect for the ridges of plasma coils, space marine armour joints and basically everything thats too narrow for a file or knife to get to.

I think you could glue sum sandpaper on stick, then use that, to scratch that itchy mouldline. I like this style more, also use 3000 grit or glass file to finish, with extra smooth surface.

The moldline removal tool from Games Workshop in my opinion works great on flatter straight surfaces, like the top of the barrel of the plasma gun you were working on or the side of the legs of a space marine. For more detailed work a hobby knife is really required. The back of a hobby knife or a blunt one would do the same job and is more precise.
@leakycheese

+Amanda Jansen Would you say the mouldline removal tool is worth investing in as opposed to using knives and files on smooth surfaces? Have you any experience of using it on resin models and if so is it effective? Thanks for watching :)
@MandaPii_
@MandaPii_ 7 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think the moldline tool is worth investing in unless you mostly work with Games Workshop's plastic. It will certainly be easy on Games Workshop plastic models, but you can easily do the same with a knife. It does however make it hard to accidentally cut into the model as you're cleaning it. On resin models I haven't had much success with it. A knife works a lot better than the moldline remover. Games Workshop's plastic is fairly soft and thus it works well, for the rest, it really isn't as useful.

exelent stuff buddy😉 when i saw your video now i start to think, its possible to make to plasma-grooves a little deeper. I dont know if it had worked , but in my head i think it would look more like a plasma weapon. But again, this can just be rambling inside my head🤔

Now that's something that I've been worried about w/r/t the Hellblasters. Not going to lie, I was considering cutting the entire coil part out & trying to shoehorn in some of the eBay special clear plastic addon coils.

Haha I always break off more than I can chew, I've been trying off & on for a few days now to change up the turret ring on a Sicaran and I keep making a hash of it. If this link doesn't work you should be able to find it by searching "Pyrkol" on eBay. They do the coils and a ton of really great looking counters, I really like their Shadow War stuff. www.ebay.com/itm/Pyrkol-Conversion-Bits-for-Plasma-Weapons-Space-Marines-Warhammer-40k-/112406165383

These on eBay are the same design as the type I use. I like them as they are pretty unfussy and get the job done well. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232598980934 Personally I've never seen the need to use a file with a hand grip but that's an individual choice TBH.

Have you found that the new plastic for these guys is "softer" than it was.
@leakycheese
@leakycheese 7 жыл бұрын
+TheJankmaster I'd say it seems consistent with anything I've built from GW in the last decade. It is definitely softer than the material they used back in early days of Rogue Trader although at that point their plastic kit manufacture was outsourced to a different company..... Revell possibly? Thanks for watching :)

leakycheese could be...converting some of the new PoxWalkers and Putrid Blight Kings for use in Blood Bowl is good news/bad news. Easy to remove weapons, but you have to use a light touch or xacto slices through the hand completely,
@leakycheese

+TheJankmaster Yes, I've been working on a Gundam model today and there is a huge difference in the plastic hardness between Bandai (hard) and GW (soft).

I watched a video which may have been made by you where some sprues were washed and left in water with fairy liquid and the water turned cloudy / sparkly almost, so there may have been some residual chemical left over from the molding process.
@Alaska1925

@@davedogge2280 that was probably resin, not plastic ;)
@davedogge2280

@@Alaska1925 aye the resin molding process produces minis with more residual chemicals on them which are meant to interfere with acrylic paints I think.

It's tedious af. Add a fact, that I have almost fobia level of fear, for sharp objects. I be swetting not to cut too much, as I stick the blade in, it scratches the model making new lines, as I try make them gone. GG Njoy XD

the cleaning of seams on any space marine or his weapons should not be attempted by a blade of any kind, plasma coils especially .......or files or blunt blades its just not correct.....it can be done beautifully with a special brush n a special chemical technique and can be done in a matter of seconds ...yes...a matter of seconds.......and ye cant tell they had a seam line in the first place....files, blades and blunt blades are a barbaric technique for any tupe ridged weapon or detail of that type on any gw model...nuff said.... youtube has nobody that uses my techniques so ill have to put one up for the fast , easy method of cleaning a space marine plasma gun in under 30 seconds....
