EASIEST, SAFEST WAY TO SHOVEL ANYTHING.
No bending your back. No aching back. No chiropractor.
This is how I shovel, when I need to.
No special shovels, no money to waste on half baked contraptions.
All you need is a piece of rope, or chain, or anything flexible that you attach to the lowest point of your snow shovel, or other type of shovel, or pitchfork.
Stand with your back straight and arms straight down. Load the shovel. Lift by curling your arm that is holding the rope while the other arm shoots the snow, or the sand etc., away. When shoveling upwards on steps, just shorten up your rope grip..... something you cannot do with the bent shovels.You can also shovel going downwards on steps, just lengthen your rope grip. At all times KEEP YOUR BACK STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN.
This is how I save my back, save money, and my shoveling is actually fun. Use at your own risk.This video is copyrighted, and its' intellectual property. For informational purposes only. Consult a physician before attempting.

I imagine it does save the back but it transfers the work to the arm and shoulders. You’re lifting a lot of weight with that rope.
@lkanavaros9576
@lkanavaros9576 Жыл бұрын
@@jujubegold If done correctly you should be using your biceps NOT your shoulders to lift. Curl with one bicep and push with opposite tricep and you'll maximize leverage. When done right you'll lift as much as your arms are able to handle.

Thank you for this simple, brilliant idea! My favorite film instructor from college - and good friend of mine - died of a heart attack last winter while shoveling his sidewalk. This happens more often than most people realize, so it's very important to be careful while shoveling snow. I'll be attaching a length of rope to each of my shovels this evening, thanks to you and in honor of my friend. Shovel with care, folks!

Technically the invention is now open source unless the inventor decides to patent, but because it is a simple adaptation it would be troublesome to define what exactly in the invention is an innovating.( You cannot patent the intellectual property of redistributing weight, or the bent shovel wouldn't have so many knockoff versions competing.) it is more likely he have to patent a unique rope and spindle harness.

Two other tips for sore shovelers out there: 1) tie a knot in the rope just above the point where you're grabbing it, that will keep your hand from sliding up -- and you might want to tie a knot where you actually grab it to give yourself a better grip, in addition to the knot above where you'll grab the rope. 1a) You might get better control and grip by using webbing -- the material that dog leashes and tie-downs are made from -- but not the thick type material which will be harder to knot and tie onto your shovel. 2) spray your shovel liberally, front and back with WD40. Snow slides off. Another person below said to heat the shovel and apply wax, but no heat needed with WD40! And you can quickly reapply too. And -- if you're also using a snowblower/thrower (single or two stage, it matters not), spray the inside of the housing, all sides of the auger, and the inside of the exit chute, and if you have a two-stage, spray the impeller and the inside of the exit chute. This really keeps the snow from sticking -- especially that wet heavy snow that sticks!
