What helped me to keep the thumb going is to keep beat with foot or bob like Neil Young to the groove. It helped a lot

cool tip.. yeah shuffle is a term like ragtime blues shuffle delta blues shuffle blue grass all that jazz funk stuff expression using every note and embellishing the notes feeling the rhythm,,hearing in your head gumming singing along
