If you take out a notepad and rewrite what they said and take it step by step it will finally click for you. You're smart, it's just rethinking what you already know. I used to be afraid and confused. I now look at how much water I need to pump and how high. Some pond pumps come with low water shut off and adjustable rates of water. Try looking up Lowe's or Home Depot water pumps they have charts that may help get you over some hurdles. Good Luck. Oh, pool and patio stores are where I started.

Just curious why you don't use an autofill valve to top off vault reservoir - this would allow you to use a smaller vault size and have no concern about running low due to evaporation. This would save a lot of time/cost/worry.

How do you deal with over excavation at the bottom of the pond or reservoir? Obviously, after doing 1000s of ponds, you have gotten very good at knowing what you're looking at, but for John Smith digging his first one, if he goes 34 1/2 inches instead of 30 1/2, what's the best plan of action to get it back up to where it needs to be? Pour dirt back into the hole and tamp it down? Use sand?

Actually just finished mine today. 32' long stream with 10 falls. been a chore digging in petrified dirt. ugh. Now i got to figure out how to move my perfectly placed rocks to put the felt and liner down and somehow get the rocks back in the same location. You guys always make it look easy but now that I'm doing it I'm finding a few things that seem so simple to be rather complicated.
@bensanderson1564

That sounds awesome! Do you mind telling me what size of pump you're using and how big your basin is? I'm looking at extending a 26' Aquascape Pondless Waterfall kit out to about 30' and was worried whether it would still work with the supplied pump (4000-8000 GPH) and 5 large aquablox.
@performancebasedheatingair8006
@performancebasedheatingair8006 2 жыл бұрын
@@bensanderson1564 I'm using 10 large aquablocks and a 4000-7000gph. But I have it set up to add a second pump if the amount of water is not enough. I know my water storage is good but the pump I don't. Currently I'm moving rocks and putting down felt/liner. Hopefully I'll be able to run water in a few days and start edging and building where I need too. It's kinda hard since I got no clue how much water 7000gph is....And how much I'll lose with height. Plus I have 10 waterfalls and I don't know if that will effect it.

@bensanderson1564
@bensanderson1564 2 жыл бұрын
@@performancebasedheatingair8006 Thanks for the info! I've been talking to Aquascape and they say the 4000-8000 GPH pump should still be able to pump enough water for a 40' stream, provided I don't make the stream too wide. Based on their formula, a 40' stream at 2' wide and 1" deep should have a basin that will hold roughly 375 gallons, so I'll have to buy a few more Aquablox to expand it out to the new dimensions. Good luck with the rest of your build!
@performancebasedheatingair8006
@performancebasedheatingair8006 2 жыл бұрын
@@bensanderson1564 I would agree with that since I just hooked up the full 50" piece of 3" flexible PVC. I have it just hooked up for testing sections, filling my edges, etc. While the pump takes several minutes to fill that pipe up before it comes out of the very beginning of my stream, it comes out in good volume, actually filling the 3" entirely. My stream is only about 10" wide were the water is actually flowing, but at the bottom I split the stream into two and ran one side over a fall and into basin, while the other side goes over a fall and into a pool of water on top of the basin I made with a few boulders and some extra liner on the bottom. That pool of water then builds up about 6" deep and spills over another fall. The volume of water is plenty to do this. But if you can build it, hook up it up, and test it. Its much easier to lift the edges of the liner and remove/add dirt as needed. Just remember that when you add rock/foam sections, the sides will need attention again as it adds volume. I just started foaming yesterday. Ton of work but so worth it. Good luck buddy, I hope it comes out stellar....

I see that you left behind some of the little roots? Won't they cause the puncture of the liner by eventually continuing to grow?
@AtlantisWaterGardens
@AtlantisWaterGardens Ай бұрын
The underlayment is a "root deterrent", so roots shouldn't work their way through to puncture the liner.

Once you have established the calculations and amount of water in motion and how many gallons your reservior needs to be how do you go about figuring out the dimensions of the reservior? (I.e. LXWXH)
@AtlantisWaterGardens
@AtlantisWaterGardens Ай бұрын
To figure out the dimensions of your reservoir, you should start by deciding on the shape of the reservoir-whether it's going to be rectangular, circular, or another shape. Here's how you can proceed with a rectangular reservoir as an example: Choose the shape and decide on the depth: For instance, if you opt for a rectangular shape, you also need to decide how deep you want your reservoir to be. A common depth might be around 3 feet, but this can vary based on your specific requirements and the total volume of water you need to store. Calculate the area needed at the chosen depth: You can use the formula for the volume of a rectangular prism: Volume = Length × Width × Depth. Rearrange this formula to find the length and width based on the desired volume and your chosen depth. For example, if you know the volume of water your reservoir needs to hold and you have decided on a depth, you can calculate the required area (Length × Width) by dividing the volume by the depth. Adjust for practical considerations: Once you have an initial calculation, consider adjusting the dimensions for practical building considerations, such as the availability of materials, the nature of the land, and ease of construction. Also, consider the need for additional space for lining materials, pumps, and maintenance access. Many pond and reservoir calculators available online can provide estimates of the necessary dimensions based on inputting the volume and depth, adjusting for factors like the underlay and overlap of liners which is crucial for ensuring the integrity and longevity of the reservoir. I hope this answers your question.
