This is really helpful!! Thank you! I’m 47 with a 3 year old who stopped sleeping thru the night as soon as he turned three. We’ve tried everything and got into some bad habits…rocking, co sleeping, and here I am 2 1/2 months later. I am starting this tonight! And the paci is going in the trash.

@@sammyydell886 we are still dealing with it. But I believe the underlying issue is iron deficiency. He has been a lot better for a few weeks now since he is getting a good vitamin with iron. I’m about to try the chair method again now that he is doing better.

thank you so much, for being so honest and specific with these information, my baby is almost 7 months and i’ve tried putting him on his crib and expect him to sleep on his on, but i have had given up, because he cries so hard, but im gonna try the earbuds tip and give it another go. Since his sleep has gotten so much worse after learning how to crawl. I wonder how would I know when to breastfeed him, or whether he still needs those feeds. ( usually 2 - 3 feeds)

You're so welcome! Baby sleep can be tricky, but finding useful resources can really take the mental load off of parents. As far as feedings, I would check with your pediatrician to see what they recommend in terms of night feeds. In general, at this age, some babies are feeing 1 time per night if they are breastfeeding, while others can make it through the night with no feeding. In order to honor the nursing relationship and maintain supply, I usually recommend selecting a "feeding window", usually some time between 12:00 and 2:00 a.m., and offering a feeding during that time period. Then treat all other wakings with the method!

last night was night 3 using the method, but the first night I took his pacifier, he actually slept well and so did I!! I breastfed him around 00:30 and again 5am which its been messing up the rest of the morning feeds, but it feels like progress. Just wanted to thank you again.

How can I train for naps if my baby is at the nursery? he is 9.5m old and currently on 2 naps, he is EBF which ofc he is still waiking up at night. should I wean him before sleep train? He also doesn't take the bottle tho so this makes it more difficult.

Great question! If you want to maintain the breastfeeding relationship, you are absolutely able to sleep train and nurse! First step is to talk to your pediatrician to make sure your baby does not need those night feedings and systematically wean down the length of time at the breast. Next step is to put him in the crib awake, so that he is not associating the breast with sleep. You can still breastfeed during the day, don't need to introduce bottles, and expect him to sleep through the night at this age! if you have a non-nursing partner, it is recommended to have them do the first few nights of chair method, in order to support the baby as he learns that nursing is no longer being offered overnight.

Hi there! I started to sleep training my 6-month-old baby, so far a bit over a week it only works for morning nap… baby cries hysterically for evening nap so i give him breast and we co-sleep at night. He wakes up many times at night (over 4) and i can only prolong his sleep with breast. How to teach him to be able to prolong his sleep on his own? It must be hard to put up with 20-min crying in the middle of the night…

Hang in there, mama! Sleep training is definitely not easy, but once you make the choice to move forward, it's essential that you are completely consistent for all phases of sleep. He can likely fall asleep for his morning nap because he's exhausted from the night before but then continues his overtired cycle the remainder of the day. If you are sleep training, putting him in his own crib is definitely going to be easier on him and result in less crying.
