Make Sure You Jerk truck as you would while attaching to a trailer and while sliding it, do it gently otherwise your fifth wheel can brake stop bar and you will drop the trailer. For Best Fuel Efficiency You want to keep fifth wheel as close to the front possible but the draw back you might be overweight on your steers specially if you hauling reefer. Optimal setting is be closer to the middle.

Wait so it’s opposite than the tandems ? You slide to the problem to take weight off but for the 5th wheel you slide to the the place you want to add weight to ?

I wonder if you could have some way to measure it, like a rope with a squeaker on the end. However many notches is how much rope you stretch out. When you hear the squeak or a crunch.

I always leave my fifth wheel unlocked. Then I never have to adjust it. I guess it just adjust itself wherever it needs to be.. next time I scale out I'm going to leave my trailer tandem unlocked as well works really nice.
