How to smoothen your arrow fletch for better performance?

Having made all possible mistakes, skewering my bow hand with fletching is certainly on that list. I’ve been wrapping the front of the fletching with serving string which has solved that problem. And I’m fast at it now. But the Arrow will sometimes bounce (very slightly) off the arrow pass because the serving creates an abrupt ridge, just as you said. And, indeed, my arrow passes are all scarred. The bamboo pass on my Yumi has been scarred to the point of disappearing completely on that side of the bow And they wood underneath his now being affected. So, your instruction will be very helpful, indeed. Thank you for taking the time to create this video in such detail. I’ll go find that little flat file this week and get to work. Cheers!

An interesting topic. Never had a problem with arrows scratching me, but they always scratch my bow.

One way to avoid scratching yourself is to raise the nock height. With a smoothen fletch, the nock height can be kept at minimal, usually just 3-4mm above perpendicular for me. I believe this helps minimize arrow porpoising at launch.

@@bambooarchery Yes, I know. The most simple way to not scratch your hand. Still, scratching the arrow pass on the bow requires a more sophisticated approach. When Khatra doesn't work, your advice hopefully will. I will give it a try.
