Thank you. For years I have read about how 'in a survival situation, you can snare game' with a few hand drawn pictures. They make it look WAY too easy and the whole 'wolf eating your rabbit' is totally ignored. It seems one needs specialized tools and PRACTICE to actually do this.

Yep, it's just like everything else in life. You can read a book and watch a video, but until you actually do it and master it, you don't really know it. I can read a book about brain surgery, but few people would let me cut their head open and start fixing their problem! :)

Flydye45------just get your self a good multi purpose tool to carry., a Leatherman is nice but most anyone will do the job. You can most always find a piece of wire off a fence or something unless you're in the middle of desert, probably no rabbits there any way. practice with heavy fish line, and wire, if you're stranded, you will probable will not have air craft cable and swivels ect.. in your pocket.

I have never had rabbit meat but have been homeless and wondered how to catch them on many a hungry night when there was no other foods available to me. I had access to all of what I would've needed but had no idea it was so simple. Thank you for your video I will try these methods if I ever find myself homeless in the woods again

Everything you have done in this video is spot on apart of a minor detail (and the reason the foxes get the rabbits first). You have better chances of getting the rabbit first if the end of the snare is tied onto a 2-3 feet long branch or something that the rabbit can pull for 10-20 feet but big enough to get tangled onto the surrounding vegetation. By doing this the rabbit feels safer hidden close to your trap area and doesn't cry from the stress of being caught in the snare attracting foxes and other predators

Catching rabbits and less of people's pets. This should be made into a video. I'm Canadian and this is the proper wat to do this, size of your fist, remember a rabbit can squeeze through a chain link fence with little resistance. Lasso should not be bigger than your fist and if hanging from above ,don't have it swinging ! Put branches on both sides of the game trail to force the animal through your snare, common sense!
@TheWoodedBeardsman

I agree that the laws with respect to brass or stainless steal wire is here "picture wire" doesn't make a lot of sense. We have all sorts of issues with hare breaking the wire because it's simply too weak to do the job properly. So now we have a bunch of hare running around with broken wire around their necks. But I guess, that's not for us to talk about because it won't change anything. I look forward to your developments Tim on the "picture wire" solution. Now that we know what a proper snare looks like, now we need a legal way to properly snare them. I should also mention that these hare are the only legal animal we're permitted to hunt with just a small game license so it's a good way to get started. Other animals require a special trappers permit. Thanks again Tim, I hope to keep this going and do another trial and hopefully be successful!

the rich men who own the forestry lands are the ones who make the laws. all most all the politicans in the south have connections to the timber industry. they flood the land every fall using the army corps lock and dams and then say you can't hunt on it because of a law that says no hunting on land less than 40 acres in alabama. all the deer started going on public lands down here so they made baiting legal on private lands to try and lure them back. they are going to burn in h3llldf.

Glad you did this video! I cant stand the brass wire we are "supposed" to use here in Canada. Its inhumane because fox and other incidentals get caught in it all the time and break the snare but the wire stays around their neck half the time. At least with a cable snare you can put on a break away, so when something comes down to a moral issue and government law is forcing me to do something immoral I always choose to do the morally right thing whether the government approves or not!

I never targeted rabbits because I was always after $$$ fur when I was trapping. My rabbit catches were accidental in Bobcat snares. One incident that stands out was years ago when I was river trapping by boat. I had set up a woods for cats near the boat ramp and about a week later , a friend was rabbit hunting in the same area. He told me that the dogs were running a red hot rabbit and came right thru in front of him and his buddy when all of a sudden the rabbit and both dogs got caught in snares right in front of him. He said it beat all he'd ever seen.

I have used why are sneakers in the past to catch pigs but you’re right the snare has to be supported. The hog trails we’re going through some pretty thick pine trees real small young trees so i used electrical tape and tape them to a small branch on each side of the trail and they would walk right into it

Hi, perhaps another factor in Northern snaring is extreme cold. At -20 to -40 the rabbits are always running to keep warm so we typically use twigs to fence in an open on the trail, chin up and head down twigs. I do think the modern snare is more humane at quickly dispatching the animal. Also like the use of wire for both anchoring and supporting the set. Good video, thank you. Steve, Manitoba

Well done video. My only real criticism is the size of your loop. I’ve been snaring snowshoe hare since I was in primary school here in Canada, so I’ve got four decades of snaring & trapping experience under my belt. In my experience, a loop that large will result in body/stomach caught, or live caught animals. If the quarry were larger or larger-eared like a desert jackrabbit I’m sure loop size wouldn’t be an issue. Obviously, your mileage may vary, but nevertheless, still really enjoying your videos.👍🏻🍻😀

Tin cans are one of the best inventions man ever made almost as good as when God made man. Tie some cans on your stick to alarm you when the snare goes off, now you know about your catch the moment they are caught and can go get your food before something else steals it from you.
