Very good video. Thanks for teaching your skills. I’m a retired commercial electrician that wound up in the Audio Visual industry and learned how to work with metal studs and tin snips way back in the day. Now I’m putting coil stock and vinyl on my shed. I’m trying to figure out how to cut an inside corner bend with tin snips and then saw you use the scribe and break method. You made my day fella. Thanks for your service to our country as well.🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️

Hey great videos man. I’ve done nothing but roofing and siding for the last 15 years and just like watching the way other people do it I do have a tip though. When running your facia over top of your bird box where are you take your knife and cut the bottom lip I’ll take a piece of cool stock and make a double half inch bend to make a hem and it locks right in over the raw edge. Mostly only do it when it’s over 18 inches but it really helps the metal lay flat and it gives a really good. Also when running that top piece of rake facia I just brought my tape to the soffit side of the peak measure to the bottom of my facia and then subtract a quarter inch pull your measurement to the top Burn an inch and a quarter for overlap market and cut 2 inches longer and then the mark on your lip will be a bend point that you cut away from the face and bend it down. It’s just A way to do it without scribing

Also if you take a roofing nail and pre-punch your holes for your trim nails it makes them set completely flush without putting dimples in the metal but just pre-punch about half the tip of a Roofing nail

A metal awl (scratch awl) and hammer works well for punching holes through (even on metal roofs too, but with like fascia etc….not trying to do entire stack at once either), yes, will eventually be buying a new awl…..but can get a pack of around 5 for $4-$6, even w/ today’s prices😉. Also like the “trick” for at peak of gable end doing a few cuts to bend over the fascia so it’s one piece at the top, little more work though then just measuring and doing a scribe, miter, or straight cut….but everyone has their own favorite way; and that’s what makes things interesting, imo….seeing and learning from one another “ppl’s tips & tricks” that can help others out. Nothing wrong w/ trying something new and if find don’t “like or not your style”, than ya don’t do again and move to what were doing or try again w/ something new. ¹ Do AGREE that buying your material from Home Depot, Lowes, etc…instead from a supply “store” does make a difference, imo, as you stated and noticed in w/ this install. Seems to be better “quality” at certain places than others, which, again, imo….can make a difference in the install process; especially w/ time and fasteners used. Have a good one✌🏻 ¹ edited: b/c I added this extra comment (as an fyi to NE1, after a like/dislike/comment)

I am installing flat roof flashing under shingles and over corrugated patio roof. Seems most city codes require roof flashing to be 26 Gauge (0.019 inch). But the flashing rolls sold at Home Depot are thinner. How do I resolve this?

everybody shows how to put ice and water shield on OSB. But how do you handle tear off when it has non removable ice and water and you don't want to waste too much time on it..DIY
@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction Жыл бұрын
It's tough, on occasion the ice and water will come off. If it doesn't I always just get underneath it layer by layer and and get it mostly flat. You can't do much else besides get the overlapping parts off and let the flat pieces stay. If that's too problematic all you can really do is change the first sheet all the way around. It's common for guys to do that

@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction Жыл бұрын
No sir! It all comes full circle, people keep telling me to wrap the gutter apron around but then the gutter guy can't extend past the roof an inch which they all do. The facia wraps around tall and covers that part you're talking about. Not the drip or apron
@joshuaclark384
@joshuaclark384 Жыл бұрын
@@NWIVeteranConstruction yea, I know what your talking about there. I've always ran into that same thing with the gutter. I mean I guess if you get the fascia up tight enough without warping it will work. But with the gutter I just trim the back of the gutter that is the 1in. Or so past off just down enough right at that bend on the drip just so everything is closed still.!!

If your covering your facia with gutter,why nail the bottom? You can nail or screw in the middle where the trough would sit and hide the screws, also where I’m from we don’t trim nail the gable facia the weather usually rips it off no matter if we nail the face or lip
@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction 2 жыл бұрын
strange. I've never had nothing blow off and it's definitely because I make sure I nail the seams. and I don't prefer to secure behind the gutter. I do prefer the nails underneath because if you don't then the fascia could move in a wind storm and eventually, you'll start to lose soffit.

I always use roofing nails for under wrap connections on the fascia and rake( center), as it has a bigger head than pin nails, then pin nail top bottom with pin nails at connections and under metal to soffit, it holds better against any weather!
