Over the years I've done a lot of soldering. Wires, electronics, pipes, metal parts, you name it. So I thought I'd pass my hard learned knowledge along to possibly help some one else who is trying to figure it out. #howtosolder

Really nice competent-sounding gentleman, no hype, flannel or flummery. As a a British bloke I even tuned out of the US pronunciation of solder! I loved the demo of the single handed two wire grip! Whatever gets it done is the right way! I was not aware of all the different types of flux or what they do, so seeing what they do is really helpful. The hot air solder melting tool was also news to me, thankfully on a Non-DCC railway layout I don’t think I’d ever need one. Brilliant stuff Sir!

As a beginner, I am very uncomfortable with how close he can get the iron to his fingers.

Very uncomfortable hu? Slow your breathing down close your eyes and invision the mean soldering man licking chicken grease off his fingers. You will immediately feel a happy , this will balance the trauma that most could not have endured. I just want you to know that I'm proud of you little Henrietta. You'll figure it all out someday.

Excellent information here. Thank you. Can you tell me what kind of flux I would need for soldering a polished metal piece? It's so shiny it almost looks like it's Chrome plated. I can't seem to get solder to stick to it with my paste flux.

How do you get solder to stick to metal? I only ever have it stick to the iron tip
@richvolkjrful9 ай бұрын
Great video. I have a question about the last segment. It looks like you used just a tiny amount of solder and yet you're telling me it went all the way around the shaft and also through the gear onto the other side?

What if you’re not sure what you’re soldering? I have a slide drawer for storing coffee k-cups. I believe it’s made out of metal instead of aluminum, but I’m not sure how to tell. One of the rods on the front end side has pulled apart from the front face (bad original solder job). It doesn’t really effect the drawer performance but it’s annoying flopping around a bit. I hate to throw it out and get another (like friends have suggested) when it should just be an easy fix. I have in my possession a pencil like tip soldering iron, one with a standard flathead screwdriver like tip, and a small torch like at the end of your video. I believe the only solder I have is a package of small Lead-Free Rosin Core Solder. To correctly re-attach the rod (it will stay put touching the front until you move the drawer) are you saying I need to use the torch rather than the electric soldering irons? So far most videos I’ve come across in my search is how to solder electronics versus small household shelves/drawers. Any help would be very much appreciated.

In tinning a wire for a joint. You should never let the solder go under the insulation. Also the joints need to be cleaned with alcohol to prevent corrosion before you seal them. Otherwise it’s a doomed connection.

My turning signal connections are messed up. I have to get a low profile connection to a washer, the amount I need won’t bond. Everything that holds is too much.

What is the difference between solder paste and solder flux? Will the paste work on aluminum wire?
@TheWeevilGenius Жыл бұрын
Solder Past has solder powder mixed in with it. I have only used solder paste when soldering surface mount components to PC boards. Flux is only just flux and keeps oxidation to a minimum. Neither will work for soldering aluminum. Aluminum solder exists but its nothing like normal soldering and will take some practice and KZfaq watching to be able to do it. Maybe I should do a video on that!

I have some doubts about the genius of the weevil. His editing is not so good. The audio is very inconsistent. sometimes the boring music in the background is pushing its way in to the forefront and is louder than the voice over.
