@Thouchins One of the main purposes of drop tunings is to make power chords much easier. Also, if you think it doesn't sound much different, then you've never heard very low drop tunings.. There is a HUGE difference between E Standard and say, Drop C or B.

@Thouchins drop tuning is often used to match deep vocals or grunting, plus it makes certain things like bending much easier- blues legend Albert King for instance detuned to C or C# to be able to bend three notes up (or rather, pull the strings downwards), so it's not just a metal thing.

Hi and dont beat yourself up as soloing and scales is challenging for sure and we are struggle with them. I suggest stripping it back and starting with the basic pentatonic scales and learning a few of those and then some lead techniques so u can take the scale notes and start doing musical things with them like slides, bends, vibrato, hammer ons, etc. I have a full on video curriculum on my website at www.NextLevelGuitar.com that u may want to ck out. Its step by step with a huge section on lead guitar with subsections on scales and on techniques. Check it out as there is a free 3 day pass on the home page and let me know if you have any other questions. And thank u for watching this video - really appreciated. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. @Thouchins you become a little desensitized to it considering most modern rock bands tune this low anyway. its done to relieve string tension which causes the string to move in wider vibration patterns, which causes a significant tonal change, a bit hard to describe. also it allows a lower range, considering how little time the average guitarist spends above fret 15 or so, the loss of the high range is acceptable. and lastly some vocalists need lower tunings to accommodate for their voices.

it's all down hill once you pretend the 5th fret is the nut If you want to go major...just pretend it's the 3rd fret. add the 2 notes accordingly to get different modes or scales.

rockongoodpeople I use some of ur lesson from YT. they're helpful. Anyways...another way to look at it is...to play it like the middle D string.lmao... You know...like the low E string was to the high E. This way you don't have to think too much. Your brain gets use to playing the low string two frets up after a while. If you use Open G tuning it actually sounds mean too. Now the A string is drop a whole tone as will. So the 2 lower strings are 2 frets up. I leave the high E alone. This way I can solo without having to many brain farts But it actually helps you to build chord memorize chord using the middle D string as the root note..In other words the 7th fret. In drop D or D minor the nut/12ftret is like the 7th fret

Ben Wallace As you know playing in drop D allows you to play the 5 chords by just barring straight across. As you know it gets done quickly. Plus a lot of cool riffs could be played. The BLUES VERIATION 3 has 3 options notes.... R......b3.x..4.X..5........b7..x..R. Just play where the inlays are at (except the 9th fret...Play at the 10th fret to get the b7) Anyways... someone finally explained to me why the B string is tuned the way they are. It's so we could play barr chords easier for the top side. Plus they're also tune to perfect 5th... In other words...they're use as DRONE notes while we strum....Basically tune to E in standard tuning.... In the key of E. All the notes at the NUT are in E minor pentatonic. (As if it's the 5th fret in A minor. KEYS are just PITCH) Songs such as Rock Candy or Purple Haze are in E...You can hear Ronnie play the 2 top strings as drone notes on the up stroke... Anyways...while in drop D...Im still playing the low string as if I'm in E while im doing riffs using the two or three lower strings...ect While doing single strings riff..I'll simply pretend the 5th is the NUTS (as in A minor) for everything from A strings up..... KEYS are just PITCH... I learn all the notes from 7th fret to 12 fret (in C maj/ Amin) to complete my knowledge of the fret board..... That's actually easier than what I made it..lol Just place your index on the 7th fret (E note A string) ITS THE SAME PATTER as OPEN position/NUT...Everything moved up a string.lol...You'll get use to as adjusting for the B or learn other modes. In other words...learn how to play towards the NUT... Kind of like the same concept as playing the open C chord or the C barr .... In other words...in A minor at NUT/12 fret ( A string as my root)....I master playing towards the BRIDGE and NUT...
@oneeyemonster3262
@oneeyemonster3262 8 жыл бұрын
Ben Wallace This blew my mind...The outro solo to Hotel Ca. are simply triads descending chromatically,lol It'll also help you in music theory comprehension..Such VAMPING... More important...it helped me to play using G string as root....because the way the B string is tune to a maj3 from G... Using the the G and B string. It's a lot easier than most people makes it. Most the tabs you see are wacked.lol Basic chords alter back and froth from maj or min INTERVALS...visa versa 1,3,5....From Root to 3 is MAJ...From 3 to 5 is minor... 1,b3,5. From Root to b3 is minor. From b3 to 5 is MAJOR. Diminish belongs in the minors family min and min....From b3 to b5 is minor Augmented belongs in MAJ Maj, Maj....from 3 to #5 is Maj. A FULL diminished is ALL minor intervals. 1,b3,b5,bb7....From b5 to bb7 is min. It's fully symetrical. From bb7 to octive is also another minor interval. It's also Banned from playing in Church because it sounds demonic.... You'll see in the last mode of the harmonic minor scale.... A HALF diminished is 1,b3,b5,b7 From b5 to b7 is MAJ INTERVALS You'll see this in the ii chord/mode of the harmonic minor scale or the Vii mode of the Major scale. Chord building/triads stacking is simply.. EVERY OTHER NOTE. You'll simply get different chords doing EVERY OTHER NOTES...no mater what scale you use... That's the formula/equation. STACK IT ...EVERY OTHER NOTE. Anyways...just play B min triads. Then Bb diminished. Then A Maj Then Ab diminish Then G Maj Then Gb min/b6 Then E min ... Then Gb Maj. The only place where the ROOT dosnt go chromatic is from E and Gb... In Hotel Ca...it's in B minor but the V chord gets VAMP ( Gb maj) It's basically from the V mode of the harmonic minor scale. AKA Phrygian Dominant. This exercise is not so much about the song. It's more about mastering the INTERVALS from the G string to B string. This is where thing gets shift up one fret....Otherwise it wouldnt be so wicked to master the fretboard. The rest of the strings are tune to Perfect 4th or perfect 5th, if inverted...

Awesome guitar, awesome player, awesome lesson, but should raise the action, pretty much every note he plays has a buzz, when you palm mute the strings shouldn't be scratching against the high frets, even if it doesn't come through the amp, the strings won't resonate 100% fully, and that's never a good thing.
