I’ve spent thousands of hours playing and in recent years as many hours trying to learn the things I don’t know on youtube. This guy is 1000% the best on the entire platform for people who know the basics or a little more but want to get to that level of knowing the fretboard inside and out and play all over without thinking.

Your ideas about soloing with chord tones and the way you communicate it really are the only thing that have made sense to me in 30 years of trying to get to a place I want to be in the guitar universe. I found some of your previous vids on this subject about 6 months ago... Im still not that great at applying it in a totally improvisational manner, but when I can work them out the results are much more musically interesting. I found your ideas so helpful. Thankyou! You are my guitar solo guru!.

Best teacher on KZfaq IMO. I took the membership and I can highly recommend that you you too, if you are not studying in some music school, but you want to get the most out of your playing. It's very easy to improve your "base"-level and after you start seeing those chord positions etc, it's very easy to remember all the scales etc. Give it a try. And no, i am not a partner or anything and i pay the membership from my own purse. It is just bloody cool stuff there.

Always great videos from you Brett. Particularly like the round up at the end giving specifics of what to do next - I've understood the chord tone soloing method for a while, but just haven't been implementing it properly. I bought a second hand looper pedal a few months back, so will try the 'shape a day' idea; reckon that will get it under my fingers!

@@BrettPapa I think I misspoke. I have been on lesson one for at least a week alone, and I am only halfway through it. It was easy enough to look at the "A-F#m-D-E" progression and figure out how to add the C# from the D chord, and the G# from the E Chord into the pentatonic position 1 and come up with a couple of melodic passes, because you had moved very slowly and explained in excruciating detail how the notes from those chords were outside of the pentatonic scale, and could be added back in, but I got a little lost when you moved on to the "Am-G-F-G" progression. I think for me to really get this, I am going to have to stop and map out the chords in a few positions and figure out what chord tones (From the Am-G-F-G" progression) are outside the pentatonic... probably a lot more work than "one month" to fully "get." Also, when you add the "G#" and the "C#" to the pentatonic scale, I notice you get the full A major scale, yes?

I’m really glad I decided to watch this video..! It’s probably the best way I’ve seen so far to explain how to marry the chord shapes to the scales and the melody..!👍🏼 Question is… what’s the best practice routine that’ll hammer these shapes into my brain and fingers..? ..so that I’ll eventually not need to take 2 full minutes in order to find my next step in the middle of a progression…? Thanks man..!

Thanks Joseph! Honestly just repetition. Pick three chords and work with them in a 5 fret span at a time fusing them with your pentatonic pattern in the same fret area. That will help a ton.

@@BrettPapa Thanks..! Actually I just joined your free lessons and you explained it well… to just record a really slow progression and play the shapes and scales over it..👍🏼 I’m looking forward to learning from your experience… Thanks again..!
