One thing that gets me on puzzles is when you need to escape a check with your king and you have like 5 possible squares to do it. Usually I choose the wrong one.

A good rule of thumb is to pick the square doesn't allow any follow-up checks. If there aren't any, that probably means picking the wrong one walks into a fork, skewer or mate, so look out of those tactics.

"Never repeat moves because it means the puzzle is wrong." Most of the time, yes. Although I did have a puzzle where the object was to force a draw by repetition in a dead lost position. Granted, it was a 2100 rated puzzle, so a beginner will not get that (which is who this video is geared towards). Just thought it was interesting because I thought "No way is the solution to repeat moves," but it turned out that that was correct.

Hey Levi, just want to say you are doing amazing! Blowing out videos at a faster pace than any youtuber I've seen (I watch a lot of them) and they are all pretty nicely done, informative and enjoyable. But Levi, just say something about the accident you had. Just make a short 5 minute video and explain the situation. Then at the end, say sorry for what you feel you need to say sorry for and move on. Ignoring it doesn't really help, and explaining it will calm a lot of people down. No one should be mad at you, we all make mistakes, and this was a very understandable one. (Also disabling the like to dislike just makes people more interested in learning what's wrong) that's just my opinion though, definitely don't need to act on it if it's not something you are comfortable with. Good luck Levi! You are doing amazing! You'll reach 1 mil soon, I know it.

2:32 In respect to the king, the blk queen and knight on d8 and d7 from the Murphy Wall. In this position b-g6 is a 'use up the guard' move.

Hey Levy! I have got to say. I suck at chess.. no doubt about it. But I have interest here and there and it really takes my mind off things and helps me get through the day sometimes. Just wanna say that a lot of it is thanks to you. Thanks for being such a great content creator and I really hope you don't stop anytime soon. Thanks for influencing me and so many others to get better and just making super entertaining videos. Keep up the amazing work.. now I'll actually press play, knowing it'll be awesome :)

On 11 50 i first thought you check with Qf2 instead, seems more sound as queen and rook can block the check if you go up instantly, also in general it is better for the queen to be closer to the enemy king

this video (and piece of advice in the end) made me play so much better. I don't get 100% every day, any day actually, but out of 24 i get about half, sometimes more, but i do it on the bus or the toilet so i think is good. I'll keep working

Exactly man experience is the greatest teacher blindly studying opening and strategies leads to nowhere for a begginer. Its better to try everything and learn from your opponents at first then you seriously learn one opening you like in my case for quicker games like 3 min blits or bullet which saves you bunch of time of thinking while simultaneously doing puzzles youre never gonna hit a wall if you play a lot and do puzzles.

Day 65: Of requesting Levy to cover opposite coloured bishop endgames. Especially when you have a slight material advantage of being up by two or three pawns against your opponent and you both have opposite coloured bishops as well.

Hey, in puzzle 33 after rook to g2 the white king is mate anyway after rook to any a-e2 square with discovery check from the bishop. They made the puzzle to mate the king with only one move with the rook to g1.

“What is with all these random promotions?” It’s got to be the engine not forcing a check with queens, hoping our feeble human minds will ignore their rooks and push something else, blundering into letting them keep their new material. My god those things think so incredibly different than we do.
@System64MC
@System64MC 3 жыл бұрын
It's probably just easier for the engine to calculate a knight or bishop or rook rather than a queen

If it doesn't matter what piece you promote to, a human will normally default to queen, but a computer won't necessarily

8:08 Puzzle 14 shows how the true second-order move is a checkmate threat, not a capture. Hence, players should look for checks, checkmate threats, captures, and then attacks. Also, pawn promotion should be considered like a capture because it results in a change in material.
