Sorting perlers can be an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to. All it takes is some patience and chip away at a mountain rather than trying to take it down all at once. I hope this video helps you find a better way to sorting beads, which will give you more time to make awesome perlers instead of wasting time looking for the perlers you need.

When sorting large amounts. Using a straw with tape on the end with a small hole is so much easier. You just press down on the bead and it collects in the straw, once it fills up you dump it in a container. I cam sort a bucket like that in about 5 hours!

Just got into perler pixel art and been looking for storage solutions. After searching through several retail stores I remembered you suggested a storage bin in this video. It helped greatly we just purchased a larger bin of the same brand. Thanks for the suggestion and tips. They are still relevant a few years later. Lol.

I wish I saw this video before I bought my first bucket because you are right...I started sorting...stopped and began buying my perlers either by bags of 1 color or the pre sorted sets. Butttttt that bucket of mixed beads still haunts me because I refuse to waste all of those good beads. Your method is actually great and I'm gonna begin the sorting process again. I also need more storage ugh...one day I'll be a perfectly organized crafter lol

I have found that using a shallow tray works great but I hadn’t thought about only looking for a certain color family. I will do this next time I sort. Great tip!

I sort these all the time. The typical 22,000 bead jars have 30+ colors. Most are very close in shades. Many have the translucent shades as well as solid colors. I use old gum cups, I have 15 of these in a large plastic drawer. I dump the jar out and sort these by 4,000-5,000 at a time. You can alternate between removing the bright colors, which might bother your eyes, and the darker colors, which normally are easier on the eyes. When I'm finished with sorting each gum cup has around 700 to 800 beads. So if you need say 1,000 or more of one color, you won't get that by sorting the big assorted jars. Hope this helps. Any questions just let me know.

I start with groups of colors (except teal, grey, black, white and clear) then when I fill the plastic cup I sort them into individual colors. I store them in ziplocs (IKEA ones work best) and also I have stackable trays to have them on hand

New to Perler Beading. Only been doing it for about 2 months. I have Michaels and Hobby Lobby within my vicinity. I bought a few of the kits just to get started. But when I started to want to do a pattern with different colors etc, I found a Girl in Tallahassee Florida. Her company is named Top Tier Beads. She has helped me me muddle through stuff. I bought most of the colors I thought I would use and most of the mini beads too. I look at those jars of beads and cringe LOL.

I have about 80 or so different colors and a jar thats about 75% full. We try our best to pull from the jar for small projects or even large projects that only need a few of a certain color. It has totally shrunk the large jar. But after having bought the one jar. I will always buy 1 to 6000 bead bags from now on. I hate when they come mixed. Even those trays that are sorted and then under the cover are 2 mixed ones. I get upset lol.

This is the technique I used for my new hobby of mini perler beads. I used small sauce containers I found in a pack of 50 for really cheap at Walmart. One or two colors at a time for me, as they are so tiny it was difficult to determine shades at first, so I would end up having to sort the two close shades apart from a container when I was done. I was very surprised to discover that there are 35 colors available, but many are only available in the kits.

Just to prove a point, most of the colours that come in the jars are the lesser used colours and not the ones you need in large quantities such as black so in reality that's why the tubs are cheaper.

It's crazy to me that I basically came to the exact same conclusion as you trying to do this myself. I was using a long tray and looking for only the colors I had on hand... Nice to be told I'm on the right track :)

Dude. Get a big straw. For like boba tea. And two pieces of normal clear tape. Stick the pieces of tape over one of the sides of the straw with a slit between them just slightly smaller than a bead. Now just push the straw over a bead. Tadaa not using tweezers again.

What i dont get is why ppl sort like 30k beads, why dont you just buy the packs of each color o.O?

Like I said in the video 3 packs of 6,000 beads costs $30. Now by your logic, if I'd want to make, say a rainbow piece, I'd be buying well over $60 to get every color I'd need. Getting a bucket of assorted beads is ideal for beginners, which is the reason I bought them in the first place.

I got a really good deal on perler beads at my local dollar stores. But they came in 3 different assorted bags. I bought out my whole town and it cost me less than $100 I bought over 100K beads. But the sorting will really suck but it’s so so so worth it

Individual packs are way more expensive per bead than if you buy the bulk jars of assorted colors. You'd end up spending 3-6x as much. It's better to just sit down with a movie, a couple of friends if you can, and just sort through it one bit at a time.
