Did you prime in sub assemblies or did you fully build them then prime them? If you primed after fully building, were you able to get a pretty good coat? Or did you touch up some of the undersides with black paint? Thanks! Love the scheme!

Very cool scheme, I like how it looks! That said, given that you need to manually paint all the robes, more than once, while avoiding the other areas that are already drybrushed and shaded, I'm not sure I would consider this a speedpaint (though it is subjective, of course). That process is so fiddly and time consuming for me, personally, and is precisely what I avoid when painting. I wonder if it would potentially be faster and easier to prime in white so that you can drybrush and shade the robes directly from there and then darken up the other areas with some wash or contrast paint. In any case, I hope I can figure out or stumble across a speedy scheme for admech. They're such a cool faction but at face value they seem difficult and fiddly to paint. Thanks for the cool vid, it's given me some ideas at the very least!
@Warhipster
@Warhipster Жыл бұрын
It's certainly a tricky one. In this scheme. If you prime it white and do the robes first you'd then have to paint like Black Legion probably in two coats over the bits that are going to be darker first and because the robes are quite outward facing the Robes up to bright is quicker rather than picking out faces, backpacks guns arms, legs etc etc. Priming black also hides any sins in the darker areas whereas White you have no such luck. You'd actually spend more time making sure the backs of the legs are dark for example or the underside of the backpack and be prone to making mistakes on the white. The other option you do have is a heavy drybrush of White on the cloaks to make it brighter and then shade it. But honestly? All this was painted in about half a typical painting day for me. In the past I did 2000 points of this including a Knight and that took me a weekend.

This is great and have been applying this to my current ad-mech army but I'm stuck on the vehicles not sure what I would do in place of the large red panels? Should I just blast them with white and use the nihilakh oxide over the top? Or dry brush the blue over black and do streaks of nihilakh oxide? Any input welcome! Thanks again for the cool idea
@Warhipster
@Warhipster 2 жыл бұрын
What I did a long time ago on some Onager Dunecrawlers was the same as the darker bits so drybrushed up rather than nihilakh but for the flat panels, I used some stippling to get that effect across the flat panel!

This color scheme is just what I want for my mutalith vortex beast. Only two things though. I am unsure whether nihilakh oxide or the new briar queen chill would be a better fit. (It'll be the beast's underside color.) Also I am struggling as to what might be a good color for the teeth, claws, and spines.

Hey Warhipster, do you always paint your minis or models only in clean colors or do you sometimes use weathering techniques too? Are contrast paints useable for weathering too or would you recommand normal paints and drybrushing? Would it be possible, maybe, to make a series about weathering effects if you have time for that? Best regards Mark L.
@Warhipster
@Warhipster 2 жыл бұрын
Typically I steer more towards boxart over highly weathered versions of things. That being said weathing techniques are entirely possible. I've done battle damage and chipping with contrast paints but streaking is definitely something one can do. You've given me a great idea for more videos though!
