I think you should put the timeframe from 0 to 89 (so start at 0 and not at 1). Then at t=0 you get angle = 0. Increments of 4 at t = 89 you get angle = 89 * 4 = 356 Then you jump back to t=0, with angle=0.

Great vid! It helped a lot. One thing though . . . You don't have to remove the last frame, just set back the rotation. It may be easier to visualize in 2 frames . . . frame 1 = 0deg and frame 2 = 180deg . . . frame 1 goes back to 0deg (or 360deg in the loop) for even intervals of 180deg per frame . . . for the math nerds & programmers: interval = ( 360deg / ( fps * videoLength ) ) and deg = interval * ( frameNumber - 1 )

Hi Saucylegs. Thanks for the feedback. To make the background transparent go to the Camera properties, then click on Film, and then tick the box for transparent. Thank you for this demonstration. Other tutorials would set 800° for the end frame, then set the interpolation to linear and or would work, but never worked for me. I don't know why. In this video, you mentioned using increments of 360 minus 1 for the end frame which I figured out while playing with these Thank you for confirming my theories and providing proper advice! How would I slow down the rotation? At 180° possibly. I attempted to grab and slide the key frame beyond the end frame to stretch it out, but it caused the rotation to jump/skip back to the starting point. How do I fix this? Or does it matter once I render the video?
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps for the feedback Rudy Rude. Just to clarify you only need to remove the frame at the end if you want to export a seamless loop that you could loop in an animation program etc. Sometimes it is just easier to do all the rotations in Blender. If you want to the entire animation sequence to be slower / span more time then in theory you could set a longer duration in the timeframe and then move the end keyframe to the new end of the sequence. I'm not sure why you are getting that jumping problem. It may be easier to just note the object properties at the end keyframe, delete it, then add a new keyframe, and then adjust your object as before. If you still want to export a seamless loop you would need to apply the method I describe in the tutorial of working out what the rotation of the final keyframe should be. If you want the animation sequence to start slowing down at frame 180degrees then you may need to look into applying motion easing out from that point and not using the linear interpolation. I hope this helps. Henry

Hi ChumleysArt, thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure how exporting and then importing in Lumion works... I would have thought if that extra frame wasn't included in the export then it wouldn't appear in Lumion. The option that some people prefer is to wind back the rotation a step in the final animation, rather than say setting it all up and then removing the last frame. I'm not sure if you have already tried this method, but I wonder if that would work in your case?

This helped me so much! But I'm doing it with an SVG typeface logo which I've extruded, rather than one object like on this video. When changing the interpolation mode to linear, the movement of the letters looks a messy - the letters don't spin as one item - each letter of the logo moves at a different time. Is there a simple solution around this? I wish there was just a way I could group the entire logo instead of having to manually animate each letter... Please help!
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily, there are few little tricks I often use with SVGs, especially when I am using them in a website. I have not experienced your exact problem in Blender so I am not sure if this will help in your situation but it may be worth a try. Firstly you may be able to ‘group’ the shapes. Typically I do this in Adobe Illustrator. This may help, but I doubt it. Often to clean up an svg to use in a website I actually ungroup it is as much as possible, that is if it was already made and has groups within groups. Mostly I do this just to remove any unnecessary code. Then I select all the shapes and convert them into one single compound path / compound shape. In Illustrator I do this either using the first option of the pathfinder palette or by going to path - create - compound path. Then in a way all the separate shapes behave as one single compound shape. I now do this out of habit for every use of a complex vector shape such as a compound path/shape that is composed of other shapes. If you don’t use Adobe hopefully you can find another method to do the same thing. Otherwise I hope this helps. Henry

I've rotated objects before from scratch which I learnt through this very helpful tutorial, but I'm now trying to rotate an iPhone mockup I found online. It's fully functional and all the angles look great, but when I try and do a rotation keyframe it just rotates it as if its on a 2d plane? and the whole programme looks different, I;ve been trying to find a video explaining how to animate mockups but can't seem to find anything - if anyone has any advice let me know!
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Samar, I may not understand your situation correctly, but I do understand that a lot of smart phone mockups are in 2D image format and are not actual 3D models. Could this be the issue? - This would explain why it is appearing as a 2d plane in Blender.
@samar2741
@samar2741 2 жыл бұрын
@@henryegloff Hi Henry, thanks for your response. When I rotate my camera the phone seems like a fully functioning 3D model, it has all angles and I can rotate it with my cursor. It's when it comes to key framing it seems to only rotate on a 2D plane which is bizarre considering I can rotate it 360 with camera/cursor when just viewing it.

@henryegloff
@henryegloff 3 жыл бұрын
Hi k DEADbOT, the method that I would use, that works really well for me, is to add an Empty object to the middle point where all the objects should rotate around, and then make all the elements a child object of the Empty (parent) object, and then apply the rotation animation to the Empty object. To set an object as a child object to a parent object first select the object that will be child then select the parent object (in this case the empty) and then I think the keyboard shortcut is something ... p, like control-p or shift-p. (I'm at a computer now which doesn't have Blender loaded so I can't double check this, but you should be able to find the steps to parent online). Otherwise I use this technique all the time. The important part is to position the empty in the center of where the objects should rotate from, and you probably want to make sure the child objects don't have their own animations. I usually use 0,0,0 and position all the other objects relative to this. Here is an example of something I created using this technique: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5-SgbObtLaygqs.html. Otherwise I will create another tutorial at some point showing how rotating multiple objects. I hope this helps. Cheers, Henry

@@henryegloff thank you so much for the detailed reply. youre really a legend. id heard the term Empty and that was the first thing I attempted. I created the Empty and made all parts Children. then once I tried rotation on the Empty; it did not work correctly. I tried these video steps from memory instead of coming back here and following them more closely. I remember starting on frame 0 instead of 1 as one obvious mistake. I had my objects in many separate Collections and some of the objects were still Curves while most were Mesh. another probable issue i think. ended up making a separate save file and converting everything to Mesh and Joining them. I believe using an Empty would be superior. I will try this method more carefully next time. really appreciate your advice. id link the result as gif that I made. but YT sometimes shadow ban comments that have links now. it worked out nicely anw. thanks a lot!

Mmm, not sure about that one... One trick you can do that sometimes works well is to create an empty object, in the middle position of where you want the object to rotate, then parent the object (or objects) to the empty and rotate the empty. Otherwise I'm not sure what is going on. Maybe there is some sort of constraint set in the object that is over-riding the rotate?

@henryegloff
@henryegloff 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Soofsta Tube, sorry I don't know the answer to this. I did a quick google and found these potential causes / solutions: (1) The problem could be that you had multiple layers selected when you created the keying set, so when adding additional keyframes you have to have all of the same layers selected. (2) you have "Available" selected in the built in Keying Keying Set (Timeline pane, bottom right, next to the red button - for beginners). - Apparently it can be better to have it clean if you don't know what kind of animation you are doing yet or select the options from the drop down menu. - Otherwise I hope this helps. If you find the cause / solution for you, please keep us posted. Henry

How to change the axis that it is spinning on?
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, if by chance you want to spin your object on one of the other main axis' (eg x, y, or z) this is relatively straight forward by simply setting up the keyframes etc and changing the values on one of those axis instead. However I'm guessing that you would like to be able to say tilt or adjust the angle of the spin independent of any specific axis. To do this one method would be to add an empty object to the center, then parent the object that will be spinning to the empty object. Then you could apply a spin on the desired axis to the spinning object just as in this tutorial. Then, lastly if you were to rotate the empty object (which the spinning object is parented to) this would like adjust the tilt angle of the entire spinning object sequence. Of course it depends a bit on exactly what you are after. I have a tutorial for rotating multiple objects around a central point, which shows the technique of parenting spinning objects to an empty object.

Hi MilkDud, to render a movie file go to the Output properties and down near the bottom next to File Format select a movie format. This option changes depended on whether you are on a Mac or a PC but you should see around 3 movie options available. You may need to do a bit of research to work out which will be your preferred format. Then in the main menu go to Render - Render Animation. I usually render my animations as a series of still images and use After Effects to compile them to video / mp4 format.

A lot of people render out there videos as a sequence of images and then compile them to video afterwards using video / animation software. In this case the PNG24 image format supports transparency. @henryegloff
@henryegloff 2 жыл бұрын
To speed up the animation, lower the amount of frames that the animation spans in the timeline. For example if you have a frame rate of 30 frames per second, 90 frames = 3 seconds. So if I wanted to speed this up to 2 seconds I would set the animation to span 60 frames in the timeline. It may be a matter of moving the final keyframe or keyframes to earlier in the timeline and then adjusting the overall time of the animation to line up with your last keyframe.

...and how exactly to you export it at the end, considering export doesn't have png or "movie" options?
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 2 жыл бұрын
To render an animation go to the main menu - 'Render', then 'Render Animation', but before you do this go the Output Properties panel and under Output, where it says File Format, make sure you select one of the movie formats. I think it's also a good idea to select the output destination, which is the first option under Output. In the output options - File Formats you can also select PNG here and then in the Render menu select Render Image. If you render an image, once it has finished in the image render window there is a menu called Image, and then in that menu there is an option for 'Save As'. - There are other ways to do all this stuff, but these are the methods I use. I hope this helps. Also if you want to export a PNG image with transparency there are a few other options you would need to check. The color format would need to RGBA and in the Camera Settings under Film you need to check the box for Transparent. I hope this helps. :)

i have a circle logo spinning on a cylinder but when it spins it moves off the cyclinder it isnt rotating in on spot what can i do?
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 2 жыл бұрын
If you haven't already, maybe try selecting the logo and then select Object, Set Origin, Origin to Center of Mass. - It sounds like the middle rotational point of your logo (or the cylinder) may be out of whack. Otherwise I have another tutorial that shows how to rotate multiple objects. - This tutorial shows how you can use an Empty object for the rotation point, which may also be helpful.

Is it the same if you have more than one object? When I select all of my objects it does not have the same effect.
@henryegloff
@henryegloff 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Simpleman92k. I'm not sure exactly what you are try to achieve, but if I had more than one object and I wanted to spin them all together as a group then I think that the best method would be to parent them all to one empty object and apply the spinning animation to the empty object. Otherwise if you want the different objects to spin individually you would need to select each one and apply the animation separately. In this case if I wanted to make a seamless loop I would make sure that each animation on each object goes for the same duration. I hope this help, cheers, Henry

I'm not sure if this is it, but one little catch is that you need to have the cursor over the 3D area. Also I'm not sure if this is clear in the tutorial but a lower case 'i' with the cursor over the 3D area should bring up the full 'Insert Keyframe Menu'.

It's hard to say why it isn't working for you... It will be thrown off if the little record button isn't activated, and also there are settings in the little drop down next to the record button that can also prevent it from working as shown in the tutorial. Typically nothing should be selected in the little drop down menu next to the record button. I hope this helps.

Hi Cole, mmm that's weird. It sounds like you have everything in place so this should work. I just did a quick search and apparently one thing which stops it working is if Auto Keying is enabled (in the Timeline view's header). This is a system which will automatically add the keyframes if you move the object around etc. In this case the solution is to Disable Auto Keying or just move the object to insert a keyframe. - Please keep me posted if this is what is causing the problem.

It sounds like the origin of the object is out of whack. You could try going to Object - Set Origin - Origin to Center of Mass (Volume).
