Learn how to spin yarn from wool in this easy HD video. Beginner spinners will learn how to draft fiber, how to spin yarn from wool locks, how to spin yarn from wool top, how to spin a batt, how to spin a rolag, and how to spin raw wool. We will also troubleshoot what to do if your yarn becomes over-twisted or falls apart (under-twisted).
This free instructional video is an introduction into my series SINGLE which covers 20 different techniques for spinning a single-ply yarn. You can find more information about SINGLE here: www.howtospinyarn.com/single/

This video was the most helpful spinning video I've ever watched. I started spinning a few months ago and I was fighting with the wool, just as you described. Today I sat at my wheel and forced myself to relax my hold on the wool...and it finally worked! It was so satisfying that I spent about three hours spinning today! My hand will probably ache tomorrow, but the smooth singles I produced today really made me happy! Thank you!

SUPER HELPFUL! As a long-long-long time crocheter I've been thinking more and more about how awesome it would be to learn how to make my own yarn. Ashley's video was the first that I've watched and I, literally, learned stuff within the first few minutes. She also explains things in terms that are easy to grasp while showing the technique she is talking about. Multi-tasking at its finest :)

You can take a class at a yarn shop near you, or teach yourself with KZfaq videos. I recommend the SpinOlution Pollywog for beginners, it is a wheel I helped design with Mike Pauly specifically for beginner and younger spinners.

I am new to spinning and have tried and tried for two years now but to no avail. You said that the fibers were breaking because they didn't have enough twist. This is my problem but my wheel is taking up the yarn onto the bobbin too fast and I don't know how to fix this. What am I doing wrong?
@neauveau
@neauveau 7 жыл бұрын
Cadenza Calypso what wheel are you using and what fiber are you trying to spin? I recommend starting with medium wool, batts and roving are great. - Try turning the tension (uptake) down. if that doesn't work, lace the yarn back and forth across the flyer. you could also try spinning at a higher speed. but I think your issue might be that you're trying to spin a really slippery fiber like silk and that's challenging for a beginner. good luck!

I have many rovings, but most of them are Moreno wool. My wheel is a single drive wheel. Thank you so much for your advice!

You should be able to pull the spun yarn back out of the orifice as easy as it takes it in. If it is pulling the yarn in too fast, you need to dial back the drag until it is balanced with how many twists you want before it pulls it in. Also, slow down your pedaling. My wheel barely goes round and round, just enough that I don't have to restart it with my hand. I still haven't figured out the ratios but rely on the feel. Keep at it.
