For a Mobius Brummel splice, you can use a thimble to measure how big to make your eye at the very beginning and then test it throughout the process until you're ready to taper, then install the thimble. For a ring, you'd definitely want to splice that first with the locking brummel, and then splice the other side with a thimble + mobius brummel. That's unless your ring is small enough to pass through the locking eye that is. The only caveat would be that the ring would have to be at similar working load limit to the rope so that its not the weak point.

*For tapering,* start cutting strands at the base of the cover and work your way to the end of the dead end. *For correct measuring,* using the appropriate fid is your first step. To achieve an exact length of finished cord with eye splices, you have to allow for extra rope to be consumed in making the splices. For each splice, the length of extra rope required is equal to 1.5 fid lengths + half the circumference for each eye you want to make. For instance, If you want a 2m finished length with one 14cm eye, you'll need to cut the rope 2m + 1.5 fid lengths + 7cm. If you're making an eye sling with _two eyes_ on either end of the same rope, you would cut 2m + 3 fid lengths + 14cm. Hope that helps!

Great idea! Depends on what type of sleeve you're looking at. With a loose sleeve, just slide it on before you start your splice. Don't forget to size it correctly since the buried dead end will make the neck of the splice gradually thicker the closer it gets to the eye.

The Brummel lock replaces the need to lock stitch. Note, neither ads strength to the splice when under load.

Good question! Depending on what rope and splice you perform on that rope. If you perform either of these splices correctly on any diameter of SeaStrandX, the locked eye will keep the splice from coming undone even under low or no tension. A whiplock stitch can keep the bury length permanently embedded in the cover. However, doesn't necessarily weaken or put your splice at risk of unraveling at any diameter.

Both of these splices, executed correctly, maintain nearly 100% termination efficiency in SeaStrandX.
