How to Spray Paint Racing Stripes on Car Body

Part 13 of the Transformation of my 1985 XF Ford Falcon will cover How to Spray Paint Racing Stripes on the Body. This livery was used by Peter Jackson Racing in Australia from 1989 to the 2002, This Livery was on the 1993 EB Falcon driven by Glen Seton and Alan Jones that won the Australian Touring Car Championship, The yellow is a Ford Australia colour called Rapid Yellow Paint Code RR and the red is another Australian Ford color called Vixen cloor code VX. Using Standox Solvent Basecoat and Crystal Clear Pro HS, Using a DeVilbiss GTI Pro with a HVLP Air Cap for base and a Pro Lite TE20 Cap for Clear (Tenka Pro Lite USA).

Enjoy your vids. Painting stripes on a Cessna....very tough to get the tape to lay down over rivets, any ideas on best tape to use and methods?

I'm actually planning on painting off center stripes on my falcon down the hood , roof, and trunk .. I know I have to paint the car first, and then the stripes but I was wondering when anyone does a two tone or maskes of certain sections of a panel with tape and paper after the tape is removed there is an edge, I was wondering how I would get that edge off. Would It be in the buffing and sanding stage when I do that or no

If I don't want to feel the stripe at all I want it to blend in touching it do I sand the stripe before the clear coat or after?? Using base coat clearcoat.

hey bud dont leave the airmask in the booth with overspray all over. You are going to be breathing the air thats floating in the room(paint) best bet is keep it on or put it in a case in a plastic bag so it doesn't get contaminated with paint which it will if you leave it in the booth open

Good taste mate, you must have put many hours into that job and satisfaction from it must be very rewarding feeling :))) Quick question to you about that gun: Do you prefer it over prolite? What are differences with finish coming out? Regards SamP

Thanks man, I like both Pro and Lite, they are quite similar but a little different I do like the lighter weight on the lite and air caps are interchangeable so all my old caps won't go to waste, as for how they spray I find both good and can get very similar results with each.

Great video, great job :). I have a quick question, hoping you can explain it to me. When you paint the bottom red, then masked off the red and painted yellow, that would mean the yellow layer is higher than the red? how do you get around having that thick mask line between the red and yellow layers? i noticed you clear-coat over both red and yellow layers, would you clear over the red section 1st to build up a layer so it sits even with the yellow layer, then clear over both red and yellow so the clear is flat? Sorry if I make little sense, I think its one of the main areas of auto painting I dont quite understand.

Yes there was a slight build up, the way to fix it if it worry's you is to flow coat it, in this case it was a street car not a show car so I lived with it.

Stuart Crossland Taking the doors will make for a much better job, get a mate around to help and they should unbolt easy.

How to paint stripes without edge.I try to paint with stripes but I feel a edge with hand.I must sanding before clear coat or must put many layer of clear.

Put thick coats of clear on it then let it harden 24 hours and then sand it till its flat if it isnt do another thick coats then do justnormal clear buff it and done

hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to properly spray paint a car try Alkarno Spray Paint Alchemist (just google it ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
