Do you think paint sprayers are worth it now you’ve seen the pros and cons?
@awt
@awt 8 ай бұрын
I remain unconvinced about the time savings - it was particularly the masking I was thinking of, but clean up looks like a real time drain - esp if you have to do that to change colours etc. With a roller, you can just wrap the roller in a bag, move onto the next colour, carry on.

Would agree with@@awt personally never really had the need long term for such a system. But maybe and depending on the price, renting one could work? It is a fairly specific use case item I think? You will need to be doing quite a high m^2 to get the pay back. Given the price and just "rooms" use case maybe bumping from a 9" roller to a 12" or 18" roller would decrease some time. None the less great video never seen airless system described in such an open and honest way, normally just Craig (Big Bother) showing you how much time you can save.

@@ZanderKaneUK I don't think many people rent them because people return them not properly cleaned and if the paint is dried into the machine then it's basically written off.

Yes to the sprayer for large areas inside and out, but no to spray tips (£60), extension rod (£90), guns & hoses. Accessories are extortionate. Cheaper to hire guns 'n roses to paint your house.

When you e finished spraying empty your hose back into the paint so you don’t waste all the paint still inside the hose, filter and machine pipes. your cleaning time will be halved. Also buy some round bottle brushes to help keep your gun and filter housing super clean. I pretty much wrapped my second machine in cling film and masking tape to keep the cling film in place, the hose also to help keep it all clean and looking like new. Once you get it shit up with paint splatter it just makes it look shit so you don’t take as time to care for it, these machines are brilliant if kept clean and looked after. Mine (Wagner 350 pro) has paid for itself 50 x over! Worth getting tit know the nozzle sizes too, the correct nozzle for the correct paint makes a huge difference in finish. 👍😊

My tips for using this kit. 1. Get a whip hose as it will massively reduce wrist strain when using the sprayer for long periods of time. 2. Buy a Trade Tip 3 tip holder as this allows additional tips to be used including Fine Finish for gloss work. 3. Reduce the pressure, use a piece of cardboard as a test piece to ensure even spray pattern starting at a low pressure and fine tuning pressure. 4. Make sure you use the pencil filter in the gun as it traps loads or debris and allows continuous spraying (ime). 5. Never take short cuts when cleaning everything, whilst parts aren’t ridiculously expensive, they can take time to arrive and it gets tedious changing them in you’ve not cleaned everything properly (DAMHIK!). 6. It is possible to return paint held in the machine / hose on cleaning back to the paint can by setting tip to purge on low pressure, dunk the pick up un clean water and running to through until it gets watery, then run through into a bucket. I wouldn’t be without my sprayer!

What tip is best for emulsion interior and do you dilute paint ?
@jonathanhasmail
@jonathanhasmail 6 ай бұрын
@@liamcfitness I just use the supplied 517 for emulsion which does a good job. I tend to add around 10% water to emulsion and give it a good mix with a paint stirrer on my drill. My go to paints are either Johnstones Trade Covaplus or Leyland Super Leytex as they both have high opacity and give great coverage in my experience.

Good tutorial. Well explained, thanks. I bought this model some time ago when there was a deal on. I've got a whole house to do starting with bare plaster, including outside walls. I've not taken it out the box yet, as I wanted to wait until I've got a whole week clear. It's due to masking-up and cleaning time required. However, I have done 4 rooms (kitchen & bathrooms) using an HVLP for the corners and wide roller for the larger areas. This worked well, but took a long time to do 1 mist coat and 2 top coats, and I still had to mask around switches, windows, etc. In retrospect, if I'd used my Wagner from the start in the smaller rooms, I probably would have saved time and/or got more rooms done. I can't see myself ever using this for a refresh job. Just too much aerosol floating around. The biggest con is the price of nozzles. I can buy an entire small engine carburettor for less than a new Wagner nozzle, and there's dozens of different options depending on the paint and coverage you want. It's akin to printer ink rip-off in my opinion. And that small extension used in the video is nearly £100. Daylight robbery for a simple piece of plumbing.

As part of my later in life jobs, I did carpentry and made furniture, part of it was spray staining the wood and then spray lacquering the finished item. Point being that there's an art to spraying, as Cameron says, spray straight on and do NOT linger, a puddle of lacquer is not good, nor are paint runs :) As for buying one, as Cameron also says, only worth it if you are going to be constantly making use of it, one off stuff, use a roller. Great video again, love the variety of stuff you are covering old man...Good on yer..

A tip for cleanup. Remove the plastic filter and black plastic filter holder from the bottom of the pickup tube. Remove the pickup tube and empty the paint out before using any water. clean the tube and refit. Then in prime mode put the pickup in clean water and spray (with the nozzle turned backwards) into a bucket with a liner until water comes out to remove the paint from the spray hose. After that run 1 - 2 buckets of clean water through the system followed by a quick clean up of nozzle and you're done. It takes me about 10 mins total to clean up. I use to do what you did and put the pickup full of paint with the filter on the end into a clean bucket and start flushing but due to the excess paint in the tubes it took way longer and 5-6 buckets of clean water. Loving the channel 👍

I am a paint training professional in all types of spraying equipment airless and conventional spraying. I have for home use a Wagner 350 airless unit low pressure gun. To be honest there is NO way you can spray airless with a gun extension without getting spitting out of the fluid tip, even on short extensions. You will need a CleanShot Shut-Off Valve - Swivel Joint from Grace fitted to the end of the extension to prevent paint spits when pulling or releasing the gun trigger. You get spitting when using any length of gun extension which can be very annoying and can spoil the paint job.

So we bought this very machine to do a large bedroom and it was a real faff protecting everything. In our case the room had old carpet down so we decided not to protect it as it was going to be removed, however, by the end of the job the carpet was almost as white as the ceiling. The finish was perfect but we noticed we used twice as much paint Vs rollers, plus I felt bad about all that single use plastic going to landfill. Finally, a lot of paint is wasted through the gun and associated tubing and when you get close to the bottom of the tub you lose pickup. Would I use it again, NO but I will use it to spray my fence panels which is a bit of an overkill as my cheap Aldi sprayer does that perfectly well. Finally, you cannot use this machine for anything other that 5 litre tubs so forget furniture spraying because most of the 2.5ltr pots are virtually empty before you get it primed. Would I buy it again, definitely not

I've bought one of these units after watching your video and wanted to know if you also experienced the gun losing pressure regularly and the pump all of a sudden running at a higher speed. Quite possibly a newbie issue but I found the pipes would move around and if even with there being a 1/3 of the bucket full of paint the bottom of the suction hose would come above the paint, requiring me to reprime. Also have you tried using this unit to paint trims? I could not get an even coat to come out using Leyland Eggshell for wood paint and the 311 tip. I diluted the paint also and just couldn't get an even spray.

How do you find later down the line when you want to touch up or repaint to freshen the room? The wall is very smooth compared to a roller. If you had to repaint - furniture, carpets etc woud be in the way sometimes. Would you spray or roller. Would it be advantageous for the last finish coat to just run a roller over the sprayed wall to make it more in keeping for a repaint?

Would you prefer to diy plaster yourself or get a professional and why?
@TheDIYGuy1

If you can learn to do it yourself then yes I would say go for it. It takes time to get any good though so I have a builder friend do mine and do some work for him in return.

I like the idea of a sprayer, but it's the clean up that puts me off the most. The time saved over using a roller is lost in the laborious cleaning process

15:55 Tough one this, as you say. It's in the realms of being that bit more expensive than your average bear Booboo and even with a whole house to get at, then whatdyou do with it? Quick check online; seems they're selling for about ⅔ of the brand new price. On that basis probably I'd get especially if I had a whole house ~ if they're up to snuff quality of finish ~ wise. Have a hard time selling it if the kids have seen it. Power soaker anyone and that's just with water. Imagine how much vodka shots a teenager's birthday party could rack up with the aid of one of these!

Why dont you use two buckets wven cleaning? One clear for inlet, and another for purge. Then you dont have to change the water many times. Good video otherwise 👍
