I really appreciate this video and the helpful comments. I am about to paint my bumper and this video has helped out a lot! I have a respirator, 400 and 800 grit wet or dry sandpaper, plastic sheeting to keep my garage from getting covered in paint, adhesion promoter and sandable Rustoleum filler/primer and Duplicolor spray paint and Rustoleum acrylic lacquer. Thanks again!

I'd argue that the best automotive clearcoats in a can are the 2K versions. Either Spraymax or Eastwood. Also worth mentioning is that the 2K products are legit toxic, so use a respirator unlike what you see in the video.

I think you did a wonderful job. It’s looking great! I would only add an exhaust fan to this video and two 1K lights. The lights let you see what you’re doing better and they make the paint stick to the bumper better. And they dry it better. The exhaust fan is for the over spray and your health. Turn the fan at the right speed so it doesn’t pull too fast or too slow. The fan will be messed up with paint rather than your lungs. You did a fantastic job and you worked extremely hard. The outcome was fabulous!

Before primer I would just sand it with 600 max, then lay down the primer and sand the primer with 800 max. The higher you go on the grit the less adhesion there will be, especially if you use a cheap primer where the chemical adhesion is probably not as good as with an expensive one.

hey i was debating whether or not I Wet-sand the clear as high as 1500 because the rest of the cars panels would have come from factory and be slightly "orangepeely" as its not wet-sanded. How can I match a bumpers texture that I would be painting myself to factory paint?

This vid really helped me out! Your video gave me almost all the info I need. The only thing I wish you would have done is given more info up front on how many cans you need on average for bumpers and showed how you are sanding the bumper. Can I use a belt sander or is this by hand? If belt sander, what is recommend to keep it from tearing up the plastic? Also an example of "wet sanding" woulda been legit. Thanks for the post and the brand recommendation. You seem to know your shit. Keep posting! You just got a new subsciber

1500 grit is too fine for sealing the primer - use 1000 grit (or 1200 at the ABSOLUTE finest) or the base colour may flake/peel off!! Some people won’t go any finer than 800 for wet sanding primer 😅 If OP is reading this, did you have any problems with flake/peeling months later? Cheers 🍻

You do not need to sand with 1500 after the 400. In all actuality 400 or 600 grit is perfect to paint over as long as it is all flat and any damage prepped good and primed.

I think it came out really good. I know there are a number of negative comments how you should have done this or that, but chalk it up to haters. You're not a body and paint shop guy. It only cost you for supplies and time. Yeah, sure you should wear a mask and if you were doing this everyday for a living, it would be relevant. The finished job came out great, will you get chips? Of course, its a front bumper and a spoiler that close to the ground. Wrap clear film on it you'll be fine for a while. Cheers

So you forgot a very important item. It is not wise to straight up prime the bumper and paint the bumper by itself. The primer and paint are not flexible by themselves. Especially when temps change and the bumper bends. The paint will crack. It is critical that you use adhesive promoter that will help the paint and primer stick to flexible body parts. It will only be a matter of time when you paint starts to fall off because you did not use this. In addition you should sand the bumper with 320-400 before laying down primer. Primer has very big droplets. And the sand paper you use does not give enough teeth for the primer to grab. When painting the bumper you should use 600-800. That will give the pain enough teeth to grab and still give it a smooth finish. The paper you use does not give the paint enough teeth and will start to flake off.

Get some tack cloth, always allow 15 minutes for vapor from paint to escape before you put on clear are you will get bubble Between and don't let it dry just to the feel of sticky side of tape between coats,

So, if I want to change the color of the car bumper from Grey to Silver. Do I need to sand the old color off until it's all gone? Any advice will do. Thanks

Hi , i’m painting my BMW bumper and I primed it and forgot to wet sanded before I added the paint. Can I wet sand it with the paint on there and then paint it again and put the clear on it?

If your bumper has an area with road grime paint chips, would you recommend filling the pits in with something special before painting?

Dude im doing my 2004 honda civic ex Sedan rear bumper cover right now and I accidently bought the Duplicolor b95p paint when mine is a damn b96p smh. It said that it will match my color but on the bumper it looks very light. Im about to see what happens the next 2 cans of paint

@@kz6713 I’m doing my civic lol I painted my lip and grill and what I may end up doing is buying a quality clear coat because rust oleum isn’t cutting it LOL

@@BlueCivid I over sanded my bumper and the result was that the black plastic wouldnt really be covered by the paint so in some places it looks black because I over sanded down to the plastic. Ill get this down with practice I guess Im going to buy another junkyard bumper for 40 bucks and try again this summer.

@@kz6713 yea I’m just going out and buying adhesion promoter primer and doing the same process I did for my grill because it’s holding up well I plan on wrapping my car nardo gray so it’ll probably rip away the paint lol
