Here's an easy and inexpensive way to stake your peonies and other plants. It's easy and invisible which is great if you waited too late to support your plant.

Thanks for this, Brooke. I had not seen this method before. It’s a little too late for me this year, but I will definitely give it a go next year. The peonies in my garden are special to me as they were my grandmother’s ❤️🌸❤️

I'm glad you found the video helpful. I found the Hildene Star in an obscure article by Old House (I think) on Pinterest while back. This was the first opportunity that I had to use it. So what type of peonies did you inherit from your grandmother?

@@TheVintageGardenerNJ An heirloom peony called Festiva Maxima. Large white blooms with just a splash of red. Always makes me think of her and her garden.

Kudos! that seems like a lot of work though. How is this better than tomato cages? I paint them black and they blend marvelously

I never liked tomato cages. They were ok for small peonies. But with bigger peonies or Itoh peonies (bigger blooms) , I found that the weight pulled the tomato cages over. The only tomato cage I’ve seen that might work is the inverted one but that is a lot more expensive. Mostly it’s a cost thing. Right now I have 30 peonies. I’m currently attempting to grow 180 from seed ( 6 have sent up shoots thus far). Even I I end up sprouting half of them, buying enough inverted cages will be pretty expensive.

@@TheVintageGardenerNJ i have 6 peony...fewer than 30 for sure! LOL. The tomato cages are inverted and sufficiently strong. Got them FREE from "empty nester" gardeners. 😊🌿💞
