Awesome stalk and shot Sean. I’ve only ever had this opportunity 2 times in 40 years and luckily it worked out one a doe and one a 9 point. It always amazes me how they can roll around and still get up and run. Talk about an adrenaline pump. Good job

It is SO very refreshing to see someone young have the curtains lifted from their eyes by witnessing what the word hunting is technically defined as. Hunting was always an action verb until commercialism found a lucrative business opportunity by inventing ways to sell people more and more tech/gimmickry that is totally unnecessary. Lures, tree stands, scent maskers, and most other modern "needs" were not around when the Indians were hunting - they knew the animals - as you said - on their (the animals) level. It is SO much more rewarding. But from the time people are young nowadays they are only exposed to the modern, commercialized system. Ask yourself just how the Indians could make a comfortable living by taking game with no modern tech tools. Hardly any modern "woodsman" can identify the different animal tracks, be able to read the track to see how old it is, find a shot animal without electronics if the blood trail stops, understand how to blend in naturally (I a not not talking about the clothes a person wears - camo or not - but moving, breathing, walking, blending with sounds and terrain), tell if a deer track is from a doe or buck, tricking an animal into thinking you are a part of their natural environment (if they detect you) etc. etc. Ever "graze" with a deer? As you discovered, the thrill is much higher when not tree sitting since there is no time to be bored b/c you need to keep your senses aware and open at all times. I am not sure if you have ever studied actual stalking technique or not, but after awhile using the technique Indians used (important), you will find whitetail are not actually hard to stalk and get close to. Just a teaser - Indians used to play a game called "Swat Deer." The name of the game says it all. And yes, I have been this close quite a few times It also, despite modern thinking, is possible to sneak up on a turkey. Look into Tom Brown's books (The Tracker). This is how I learned Indian technique years ago. I do not agree with his Indian spiritualism though as I believe our God created everything - which is evident in nature. But at least by being close to nature,m the Indians did, indeed, understand there is a Higher power manifested by the wonder in nature. I never understood how modern people could be content to sit in trees. They miss everything about being in the woods. Yes, its still exciting to shoot a deer from a tree stand - but it pales in comparison to being a part of the woods and, as you said, on the level of the animal. You tasted the thrill - now forsake the sitting more often and and keep hunting :) You have entered the actual world of reality apart from man's artificial shells he encases himself in.

That was a 5 star video Sean. If that was me I would have probably hit the tree and have to pray real hard that the tree was going to fall and kill the deer. HA! You had some really good points on stalking and I sometimes like to hit the tree stand one day and the blind the next day giving one area a rest. I also always have an arrow nocked for the stalk into the woods to the stand or blind. Playing the wind really helped on that second deer not seeing you. Amazing!!! God Bless!

fantastic vid, great job not only pulling it off, but capturing it for us! I stalked two in a food plot yesterday, they turned out to be yearlings so I let em walk, but it was awesomely exciting to get to them and then leave, without em knowing I was there. incidentally they were right under my stand, so I figured let em leave their dander and smell all around it. awesome day.

Well done... Stalking is difficult in Nor Mn because of the thick cover, but over the years, I have progressed into mostly still hunting with my rifle, and have taken my biggest bucks that way. This will be my 1st season taking to the ground hunt with a bow.... so excited I have a hard time falling asleep some nights!!... Thanks, cool video. DB.

I can't speak for a ghillie suit, but my full suit of scent lok clothing served me well this weekend. Wasn't planning on a stalk hunt but I happened upon one while on a quiet walk to a new spot. I ended up standing up stock still right in front of a doe about 20 yards out, she couldn't see me or smell me. Ended up not taking the shot after I had her in my sites but boy what a rush!

I did a very similar thing the other day only the wind was exactly out of my favor. but I got within 40 yards had a perfect broadside shot. And I hit the one tiny 1" stick that was just enough to send my arrow clattering off into the woods. I didnt see it at the time, but that was the only obstacle between me and the deer. lol

Growing up we used to practice by sneaking up and poking them with a stick or slapping them without getting kicked... I got kicked once. By the time we grew up we were either too big or too clumsy to do it anymore... But the style or method of creep stays useful.

HerrenGamingNews About a scope- I got a 20ga Remington w/a scope 2 yrs ago(I used to use a 12 w/open sites). I sighted it in, I can put them in a paper plate at 100. So, 1st day last yr,in evening, I was stalking, leaves were SOO LOUD! So I found a tiny stream, bout 6 ft wide+ started walking down it. VERY QUIET! I went around a bend+ there was a doe! Eating on the bank bout 20 yds! I put gun up+ I COULDNT FIND HER IN SCOPE! I could only see her head+neck- REAL THICK. I had to look again-ok shes eating those yellow leaves, then i was able to find her in scope, i shot, somehow missed, + she just stood there, shot again+ she ran off! Here, my problem was that i had scope set on 9 power! Live+ learn. That made my whole picture gigantic, + hard to pick her out! Now i keep it somewhere in the middle, like 4 power. I hope that helped you, but i do LOVE that scope(+ gun!)

The stalk took about 20 minutes, and didn't want to bore people with the length so cut through it a bit. Why the use of language? No need for it.

@@seansoutdoors oh, I do fox walk. But, yeah I get it. It’s just like any form of hunting. It’s about being at the right time and right place, doing the right thing. My neighbor and I have been hunting two separate neck of the woods near our homes. We get the deer on camera around dusk every night. But, of course when we show up, they don’t. We do everything by the book. We eventually get them but, putting all those hours in to get in that shot frustrates the hell out of me. I’ll be sitting there at dusk talking to myself asking why they stood me up again. 😂 The other night he decided to come behind me just before the last 4 mins of daylight. I decided to pack up. I made one sound and he didn’t like it. When I turned to look around, he was doing 40 mph out of the woods, across the field to the woods behind me.

You shot a deer while it was laying down? That's like people shooting deer while they're crossing a lake or pond, it's not very sportsman like in my opinion. We are supposed to give them a fighting chance not take them out while they're resting.

Dude, I’d like to see you get close enough to a deer and get a shot off while it is bedded. Please go out t there and see if you can even get within 20 yards, and after you are not able to do it then come back and talk to me about giving the deer a fighting chance.

I stalked up on this deer over a 20 minute period, but being a KZfaq video producer I know that people won’t watch a video of me walking through the woods on a stalk for 20 minutes. They would get board fast and click off they video. So, in this video I chopped out all that slow stalking time in order to keep people interested long enough to see it through. So, there is a difficult balancing act we need to play when making videos for the public to watch. Also, I spotted this deer in the distance, dropped my gear and started the stalk. I didn’t set out, with a film crew, to video me stalk up on a deer, so all I had was a hat camera. Maybe if you take those realities into consideration your expectations of what a self filmed KZfaq video on stalking would look like.
