In high school, I started a mobile detailing business to get money for a music festival ticket in Chicago. Went to Costco spent 150$ on supplies, grabbed the family vacuum and Went door to door in my neighborhood, found 1 guy who would give me a shot, put in 6 hours to blow his mind. Mind blown and went back the next day to do his other car. Turns out the neighbor who turned me down the day before saw me kicking ass and wanted my service, blew his mind, and he put me on FB for kicking ass, I had 10 calls the next day. Within 2 weeks, I had appointments fully booked for the month. I employed my friends who quit their jobs at Chipotle to help with the workload and we all made thousands of dollars a week.... Needless to say we partied hard at that music festival. Great video.

@@gabrielkasmarcik6068 don't know about the numbers but a 16 yr old and his buddy ofc y'all can do it. Like he said start up advertising is always the hardest, not expensive just hard. @@gabrielkasmarcik6068 start with friends and family. If you do a good job for them chances are they will refer more people to you. “Hey if you don’t mind letting your coworkers know that I’m detailing cars at x amount. Would you mind passing my number on to some people who you think may be interested?” The first couple of friends and family you will want to do for free or very cheap to learn the process and improve it every time you work a car. Once people start Referring others bring that price up. Don’t undersell yourself other than to get the ball rolling. Can even get some business cards( this can be a little iffy) I would just use your own name since you aren’t a business

This is very interesting business to start. I'm actually running a business where I find warehouses and charge them around $250 per clean. It takes me around 2 -3 hours to clean 1 warehouse, I usually clean 2 per day, that's $500 in one day. I do an amazing job that the client tells me to be their regular and clean their warehouse twice per month. With all the calculation, I make around 15k per month. 4k will just simpy go to bills, taxes and food, meaning that I will save up 11k per month, thats like 130k per year plus tax return. You can always invite a family member over to lower the hours you work, so it's easier for you and same pay.

I’ve owned my detailing business for 11 years and did it as a hobby since 2003. The money is extremely good. I make six figures easily every year. HOWEVER, this has to be you and your BF’s passion. Otherwise you will burn out very quickly. Detailing is a lot of work and can be tough on your back after so much hours spent leaning over, etc.

I live in California and I've literally never heard of any ordinances or laws to prohibit washing a vehicle in your driveway.......not to say it's impossible but if I've never seen or heard heard anything about it here where there's much more stringent environmental standards for the most part as compared to other states so I doubt it's and issue in most states I don't think the chemicals in the soap are bad enough for them to warrant making everyone use a catch basin

As a fairly large KZfaqr and business owner, I would say this advice was lacking one very important thing… The actual business side of a business. You completely left out creating an LLC to protect yourself from personal liabilities. What about a FEIN for taxes? Insurance / bonds to protect your customer(s) in the event you damage a car? Imagine you accidentally scratch a $250k car. I doubt you could afford to repair that. Insurance and / or bonds are crucial here. Do you have commercial insurance on your vehicle that you are utilizing for commercial purposes?

It is a good side gig but many people think the same thing. The market is saturated so keep that in mind.

Hey man, say you had to buy all the equipment in one shot, in how many months would you need to restock? And how much are you spending restocking what you need? Would be great to know for me and anyone else wondering about the finances involved. Cheers from Ottawa!

It depends on how many cars and what all you offer but I'd say a bottle of most products will last about 25 to 40 cars

What about water? You have to hope the customer has a water and hose. Are there any tips for this problem with someone starting out?
