The content was great, thank you for that. My additional questions would be about how to add the platforms to a new podcast (Apple, Spotify...) to a website. I guess there is a link somewhere and also mentioning about if a website is a good shout to put podcasts. Thank you.

I love the separate track function. Can you do a video of editing in audacity. Long story short I am just starting and I used zoom to record my first episode. Had it produce 2 tracks but when I upload them to audacity they are not synced and play out of order and can’t get them aligned correctly. So a walk through on audacity while editing 2 tracks from a single recording would be super helpful!

Love this! And yes! I think there is such huge power in starting your own podcast! But I ALSO think that doing interviews on OTHER people's podcasts can get you even bigger results! Think about it...big exposure, brand building, credibility by being interviewed by another thought leader/influencer. It's the fastest path to building your authority.

I watched you video about switching from pod bean to red circle, then the one about anchor and finally this one. I have been searching all over youtube for a simple, so easy a 6 year old could do it step by step to doing a podcast and this video SAVED ME!! They say that you own the rights, fine you do. But here's the rub. You are also allowing Red Circle to do the following with your content. So if you have audio gold, they can Modify it and Create Derivative Works based upon it. Basically they ( if they choose ) can take your interview with say Tom Hanks, chop it up a bit, then sell it on as a new product. You get precisely bugger all because you've accepted the terms. Yes its simple and easy, just like Anchor. The issue is, if it's free, you are the product. It's a free world but you should be aware of what you are accepting and only you can make the decision. Nice vids and your style is excellent :) From Red Circle "Rights in User Content Granted by You: By uploading, providing, or otherwise sharing User Content with RedCircle, you thereby grant to RedCircle a non-exclusive, transferable, worldwide, royalty-free license, with the right to sublicense, to use, copy, modify, create derivative works based upon, distribute, publicly display, and publicly perform your User Content in connection with our operation and provision of our Services. I'd argue yes. Not required, but most podcasters (and editors) I know just do mono. A bit easier.

Whoa, lots of great content, but I don't think I can edit that quickly. Also not sure how it works, if I have a guest. Does auphonic automatically stop the music when you launch into the interview? Still a bit confused.....

This was so helpful Pete, thank you! Quick question though about uploading to Auphonic, why do you upload the music file as well as the wave file? I thought the music was already layered in because you added it in Audacity.

I exported both of the Audacity tracks separately--so the music WASN'T layered in. That's only because I used the multi-track version of Auphonic. If you use the normal, "single-track" Auphonic, you'd simply export ONE track from Audacity (with the music in)

Is mono preferred so both sides are the same, controllign the listening experience for the user. Why 19lufs in the first one and 16lufs in the second one, if one is the standard? Great tutorial! I am working on putting mine together now.

The GENERAL guidance is... Mono = -19 lufs Stereo = -16 lufs I think mono is generally recommended for podcasts mostly due to how people consume the podcast (cars, headphones), as well as the fact that it's spoken word, so what would the benefits of stereo be anyways? Not a huge deal though. The mix up I did in the video is because I'm not positive if Auphonic *automatically* corrects me if I choose both "mono" and "-16 lufs." Some programs are sneaky, and they'll change it automatically to be -19.

Have you ever experienced an issue with podcasts only showing up on Apple Podcasts for people who are subscribed? (It’s supposed to “Publish to Public Feed”, but it isn’t for some reason) I just launched 3 episodes of my podcast, and they show up on my Apple Podcasts feed because I’m subscribed to it, but not when I search it in the app or on the desktop website of my podcast. I even used my sister’s phone, and they don’t show up in her app either. Does it just take some time?

Hey, Pete. Love your videos. Super helpful. I have a quick question for you. I’ll be starting my podcast soon and want to record video at the same time, so the same exact content. Then I’ll post the video file on my KZfaq and the audio file on my podcast. Do you know of a software or website that allows for that simultaneous audio/video recording?

Hey Rob! Interview or solo show? Interviews👇 Squadcast = releasing this feature soon (they say "soon," I say 3-6 months earliest lol) Zencastr = this feature is in beta, and you optin for that on their homepage I believe. Skype = can record video and audio at the same time, but alas. It's Skype and kinda not great. Zoom = can record video and audio at the same time, but alas. Also not great (but better than Skype I'd argue). I'd personally suggest Zoom for now until you have a budget and can upgrade to Squadcast ;) Solo 👇 Anything that can record video! Smartphone (and just export the audio separate), Ecamm Live (mac only), Quicktime (mac only I think?), DSLR, webcam, etc.

Pete McPherson DYEB ... thank you for your very thorough response, Pete. Much appreciated. :-) My plan is to do both solo and interview. I did a test run with my cousin yesterday using Zoom. It seemed fine, but my video output seemed a little blurry, so I’m guessing it’s my webcam. It’s a 1080p Vitade 960A, which I think is a knockoff of some other better-known brand. I actually tried a Logitech Brio 4K a few weeks ago, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it to record in 4K so I returned it and bought this one. The price on this one was much better but I’m still wanting a better output quality. Anyway, I’ll peruse your videos to see if you’ve got one that discusses cameras. I bet you do. I could also hire you to consult me a bit, if you do that kind of thing. Just curious ... what do you find mediocre about Zoom?

So when you're distributing and it says it'll take days/weeks... is that just for the first upload? Or all of them? Because my idea for my show is very much topical, and the content won't land if it's any more than a day after recording that it's available.

I'm afraid I'm not positive what you're referring to. One does need to.... 1 - create audio content 2 - Edit & post-production 3 - upload to host and publish (getting an RSS feed with something in it) 4 - submit to directories (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) hope that helps?

After the initial podcast approval via Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, etc., do you have to constantly get each episode approved? Or will it automatically post your podcast episode when you want it to be posted? How much time does it usually take for episodes to be posted to Apple Podcast (after having the initial episode approved)? Can you upload more than one episode at once (Ex: A podcast launch with 10 eps.)?

Lots of good questions in there ;) 1 - No. Once you're connected, you're done. The RSS feed will update and push through to Apple, Spotify, etc. 2 - EXTREMELY fast. It depends on a few things, but very fast. Not like days, and not even like hours. 3 - Yup! Launch as many as you want.

Does red circle own the rights of your podcast to do whatever they want? Can you transfer them to a different platform if you decide to do so in the future? I have some issues with these so-called free hosting, like they say ain’t anything free

Gives you the most control over capturing your listeners and giving them more ways to follow you--also gives you a play for show notes where you have the most control over format, links you promote, etc. It's also the easiest way to share inidividual episodes--just post a link to the show notes page where they can then click the app links if they choose to.

Depends on which host you go with, probably! Some hosts will include multiple shows under one account for no additional charge. (though off the top of my head I can't think of one). It's worth noting that you can always use separate hosts for different podcasts. I have two myself, and one is on a free host.

The whole RSS feed, distribution to Apple, Spotify etc. - Do you have to do that for every episode you upload or is it simply for the account, then after the first time it's automatic? (I'm praying it's the latter because I'm feeling lazy 😂)
