Best video Ive seen on You Tube so far on describing a turbine start. Abandoning a potential hot start not clearly defined unless you have some knowledge of turbine engine start up. Still a very well done video in my humble opinion.

As far as I know, the Rolls-Royce M250 is the most reliable turboshaft engine ever built. It was introduced by Allison in the early 1960s, and is still manufactured today. I think they built around 20,000 to 30,000, and are used in several choppers.

It wasn't a hot start, it can stay in the red for a certain amount of seconds, dependent on the aircraft. It's a hot start if it DOESN'T drop back down to the yellow or green after so many seconds. I know on the 500 it's around 10 seconds for the red and 1 second for above 927 degrees. Good video, I like the setup of the collective.

Close. The speed of the tail rotor remains constant. It's the pitch of the blades that change to affect yaw.

Do you keep the starter running until 60% RPM because that is the point that a turbine can operate on its own without the use of the starter? Less than 60%, the turbine will/may not run on its own? Is this 60% number common on most/all turbine engines?
@bryanseitz62353 жыл бұрын
50-60% is about right. The turbine will then be self-sustaining without damage.

How much costs a pilot training to obtain an helicopter pilot license?
@gnagyusa6 жыл бұрын
It really depends on where and what helicopter. It cost me, maybe around $30k in the San Francisco Bay Area, learning in R22s (then I switched to Enstroms). I did it while having a full-time job and a bunch of other projects, and I already had my airplane rating (which means it takes longer to get the heli license than aviation noobs, as you have to also learn to keep adjusting to the differences, back-and-forth). If you just do it full time, as a new pilot, in a less expensive area, you can probably do it for half that cost.

Just out of interest, how would this work with a Chinook? Do the twin rotors work in tandem, or is their a separate set of gauges for each?
@get2dachoppa2496 жыл бұрын
The rotors on a 'Hook are mechanically connected through drive shafts, so only one rotor RPM gauge is needed.
@jameswest82805 жыл бұрын
@@get2dachoppa249 If the two rotor speeds are ever different, you won't have to worry about a gauge.

@Flanker70111 жыл бұрын
how can that helicopter fly without control tubes that change the pitch of the rotor blades?
@gnagyusa6 жыл бұрын
In Enstroms, they are inside the rotor mast, and they connect to the blades from the top, via "rockers". It's much safer and cause less drag.
@dieselyeti5 жыл бұрын
Where are the pitch change links on the rotorhead? No swashplate?
@jameswest82805 жыл бұрын
The swashplate is located under the main rotor gearbox, the linkages run through the center of the mast. As far as I know, the Enstrom is the only bird that does that.
@wayangede200711 жыл бұрын
is a helicopter have a key like Car or Speed boat??

Oh my god! Where are the pitch links!?!? j/k Enstroms, what a breed.
@gnagyusa6 жыл бұрын
They are inside the rotor mast. It's much safer, and less drag. There have been accidents when a pilot hit a power line with the rotor mast and flew away. Had his pitch change links been on the outside, he would be dead.
