You are literally the best guy who talks about self-improvement, no bs straight to the point (mfs out there be saying don't waste your time and be productive and then proceed to show animations and intros and cinematography and shit). I'm on just this stage that you describe, I know that I have to get better and improve myself, I do it for 2-3 days and then end up falling back. But I'm doing it again and again since I know slowly it will change to 4-5 days to a week and so on.

Its alright bro, in the early stages, you will understandably relapse, everyone is human. It’s just that at the early stages, you’re slowly conditioning your body and mind to your new routine of self-improvement, and its alright, because i myself have been thr. But it will get easier, trust me. Just keep tryin and eventually, be consistent. All the best buddy 🫶

I badly needed this content. Remembering myself in the previous months, I felt stuck with everything. I just kept watching self-improvement videos and reading books that others say can change your life whatsoever. But still, I am having a problem with where or how to start. I know what to do, but I don't take action. Not because I don't want to but because I feel so distracted every time. I hope this new year, I can finally shape myself into the person I want to be. I want to change for me. Thank you, Ruff.

I got off the 1st stage after watching your discipline video and how to get out of the rut. It's been a bit over a week and I've seen improvement. I dont stay up late on my phone anymore. I wake up early, meditate, go for a walk or jog outside. I sometimes do slip into my old habits, but I'm able to get out of them a lot more easier than before. I still watch a lot of long form content and short self improvement content on insta and instead of just scrolling by, I put it into action and I couldn't be more happier

I honestly relate to this video right now that I know everything about self improvement and can't get started. But I also now realize I am consuming short form content for hours on hours and that is negatively impacting me. I am definitely going to change the form of content I surround myself with in order to help my mindset shift to what I want it to shift to. Thanks ruff!

Thanks for your videos again!

This is what I've been thinking too. It's not the worst thing in the world to "just" consume content, because it forms your identity like you explained. Taking action is still super important, but we do get more from consuming content than we think (if it is the right content).

i believe my biggest challenge with self improvment is that ill have to do it alone, and it just eats me alive like, im the sort of person that "feeds off of other people's mental energies" i absolutely love being around people who are always up to something productive like it can be anything even as simple as maybe reading 2 pages of a book like YO like that fules me! watching someone do what i wanna do gets me going. but as of now im very deprived of such people i cant find anyone whos into productive activities and its really difficult to stay in that rythm of self improvment when im constantly surrounded by people who scrolll through tiktok for 5 hours straight 😭😭😭😭(also i have this best friend and shes kinda being careless with her studies and its affecting me and im panicking) im really struggling with this and IM SO MAD LIKE DAMN WHERE ARE MY KINDA PEOPLE AT YOOO WHERE ARE THEY HIDDENNNNN my goal for 2024 is to find my type of crowd and holy shit when i do imma stick to them like glue. but yes i am going to work on myself regardless of this mental energy thing, ill just feed off of your youtube videos XD because thats all i can do as of now ALSOOOO i thought of like recording myself tell me all the things i need to work on and then i wake up early in the morning and listen to that recording everyday so it keeps me in this rythm, havent tried it yet but im pretty sure itll work

"I'm the sort of person that 'feeds off of other people's mental energies'" Thing is, that's how people work, especially if you're extroverted (am a shy extrovert, I think ^-^). We become like the people we're with, and it's easier to do stuff when we're with people who also do. It really helps to make friends with people who are into self-improvement, or simply into a specific hobby you're trying to get into. Make friends with readers, for your example. This is also why motivational content and stuff like that is important. You kinda feel similar with a reading KZfaqr as you would with a friend who likes reading. Also, this doesn't only apply to people -- you also get lots of energy from _things_ around you. Have motivational quotes and stuff, (realistic) vision boards, journals, your school stuff all over the place or something so you're constantly looking at it (but also don't make it _messy,_ if you know what I mean), general reminders of your productivity, stuff like that. That's why I made myself a new channel just for informative and productive videos and am trying to use my old account (filled with brain-rot content because that's what I used to be into) way less or even not at all in the new year. There's something that makes productivity easier when your recommended list is full of that sort of content.

@@cheese-bg1xq OMG I THOUGHT OF CREATING A NEW CHANNEL TOOO and youre so right its not just people its youre surroundings too!! imma do that, imma keep fun lil motivation stuff all around me ^^ what else keeps you in the rythm of self improvment even if your environment is against it? id love to know more

@@fmkyeet404 Nice! 1000% recommend Atomic Habits. I know it's a bit cliché, but it's an audiobook on KZfaq and I really love it. A tall ladder is no good when the steps are too far apart for you to reach. Also, a surprising amount depends on habits and environments. I like example I've heard once of "It's easier to not bring Doritos into the house at all, than it is to make yourself only eat part of the bag, because the presence of the bag will make you want to eat them all". Simply put, absolutely true! Making good habits easy and bad habits hard is definitely something to consider, and part of that can be simply making the equipment you need for good habits pretty.

So true omg. My friends are nice but ah they are always in the fun mood. They would say stuff like " why are you always so busy during college hours? Have some fun too" ik what they mean. But I would never do that at the cost of my lectures and practicals. During free time it's fine but like always??? I have heard this saying ' your friend should be just like you ' and now it feels true. I always feel alone. I wanna find study buddy irl. It's like what to even talk with my current friends? Studies? haha they don't care. Other stuff is just them hanging out after college as they live close to each other not me. They have internal stuff to say which I don't get it ofc and they all are in relationships. I just feel so odd there. And I totally get your comment! I feel exactly the same!!!

Ruff! Great video! I have found myself thinking about similar things in recent times after purging social media and trying to really work on myself. Immensely satisfying seeing other guys my age thinking similarly. It has been a very long road and it is hard when most of the content around self-help is from people much older, more successful, etc, so having someone like you who is in the same demographic thinking about this kinda stuff is very inspiring. Will be joining the discord, cheers :)

I came across your videos its great that you've started doing this stuff early but bro just wanna say don't forget to enjoy your childhood(assuming you're under 17) just a little reminder. Try not to overstress too much and sometimes be a little loose and carefree qq, you have plenty of time ahead of you where you will HAVE to be stressed as an adult with more responsibility. Self improvement for teens is great especially beacuse it prevents bad habits from becoming addictions. But i have seen 13 year olds post on discord servers asking how to build muscle, or how to build a business and it's like bro self improvement is good but don't adhere to it religiously just yet lol.

Not only does he give you scientifically backed up information (e.g: rat park experiment) he doesn't just leave you with it the way public school does, he actually tells you HOW to take action and apply these rules in your life in order to move on from this information overload stage of self-improvement.

To share something that ive seen as a proof for the 'spend more time on one concept' thing that Ruff talks about here (i recently just realised how this works). Im an academic student, right, and ive seen people who say i have to complete studying 3-4 chapters in a day and i just go ???? How do you plan to study this much and expect to understand and remember all of it?? This is the analogy I used to understand it I realised its way better to spend time on one chapter and understand it thoroughly than to load yourself with a lot of stuff. Its beautifully illustrated in this video. Thanks Ruff!

This very helpful Ruff, what you said about the 5 people that spend the most time with you could be people online too, that's really true. Because I have experience like what you said, that when I watch self improvement videos, I unconsciously have morning habits, such as stretching and reading motivation on my phone, then listening to morning playlist. Simply, you're what you consume is real, so if you want to be better at studying, watch a content about study tips, etc. Thank you for your knowledge Ruff 😁. And sorry for the bad English

It also helps in my experience not to watch it passively while doing something else. Or, if I do because I need background stuff going on, I go back to it later when I have the time to and actually listen. Also, getting comfortable with typing comments, and even going in with the intention of doing so (even if you don't post them), is good. Using the comments or Notepad to type summaries of the video and your thoughts really helps to solidify the information. Even reading other comments can be useful.

I have a kind of different strategy/mindset - "if this is a very common problem and the majority go through it when starting out, just imagine how much of an advantage you would have over them starting today when they wait for 2-3 months." This might seem toxic to some people but it keeps me going. This is the same reason I don't wait for new year to come or next month or next week. I'd think to myself if I start it today itself, I will be miles ahead of the competition.....
