Greg from Cimarron Firearms talks to us at the NRA Annual Meeting about what you need to start cowboy action shooting. He explains which single action revolvers and lever action rifles you need to be cowboy (or cowgirl!) action ready!

Just bought two Uberti SAA clones from Cimarron, the 7th Cavalry model in .45 Colt and the 5.5" Cattleman in .44-40 WCF. Both four click old model black powder style with the front cylinder set screw. Love the Old West nostalgia, being a child of the 50s. Had to get the 7.5-inch barrel; the preferred iron for two of my all-time favorites, Matt and Paladin. Got the .44-40 WCF because I intend to get the Winchester rifle in that caliber since it was the same caliber Lucas McCain wielded, throwing lead down Front Street in the opening sequence of The Rifleman. I already own a Henry Big Boy in .45 Colt. Like I said, I'm a child of the 50s.

🇦🇺😎👍GoJJ 1911 , I love show and tell …. If we’re gonna be cowboys we may as well be modern day cowboys 🤠👍…. Someone at the club started palming the hammer at the range one day and he got in trouble. That’s a no no apparently 🤠🤛. I like those 1873s JJ…little arms JJ…Thanks Jenny J 🙃👍

@@JennyJ1911 😂…..so the technique is called palming 🤔…. I wonder how good those ole fellas were with their guns , down here our history is hidden. Everything’s a secret . No stories get passed on….don’t know why as Australia’s just live in the moment that was created for them…. We have a strange culture JJ

That "Hollywood" technique is called "fanning". As you stated, SASS rules prohibit fanning (you can use your support hand/thumb to cock the hammer but your hand must stay in contact with the revolver). I cringed when the fellow drew the revolver and mimicked fanning it.

@@JennyJ1911 But when it comes to revolvers....nothing beats a tuned S&W K L or N Frame. You want fun.....get 4in S&W 625 with some mid range target loads. An ammo can full of moon clipped ammo.... Or a S&W 66 4in or 586/686 4in with some true 38 special bullseye loads...3gr of Bullseye with 148 Acme DEWC. You will have smile on your face that will never be wiped off! A Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 with some Acme 240gr SWC and 8gr of 231.....

7:20 as a man with muscles I prefer the aesthetics and light weight of the round barrel over the octagon.
@badmatt4227
@badmatt4227 Жыл бұрын
I order a round barrel from my dealer. However, he ordered the octagon. I think because instead his head, that is what he liked. I think octagon is ugly. Being in the communist state of Oregon, I he had it in hand so I bought it. Gun is heavy and there is no recoil.

@maxmccullough8548

4 5/8" is the minimum length, there is a special class for the 5.5 and 7.5 barrelled pistols though.

@@maxmccullough8548 I started Cowboy Shooting in 1987, shot until 2009. Never heard such, there is no division of class by barrel length.

@@walksfletcher You are correct, I was referring to Cowboy Fast Draw Association rules , my bad, minimum barrel length for both orgs seems to be 4 5/8", mounted SASS allows 3 1/2" though IIRC.

You're so sweet to be concerned, Larry! Thank you! Just so you can worry a little less about that in this instance, we were in a controlled setting where all the guns were tagged for an empty chamber, plus it's hard to see in the video perspective, but I was well behind the barrel of every one of the guns. :-) You are right to want to ensure no one is ever having a barrel pointed in an unsafe direction!!
