I did this once and it totally works. I didn’t realize that I was doing intermittent fasting. I just decided one day to skip dinner every night and lower my carb, sugar and starch intake. The pounds melted off. It was a little hard at first because in the evenings I did get hungry, but after about a week or two my body got used to it. Really the only carbs I did have was steel oats with banana, which also helped lower my bad cholesterol. Need to do it again.

You are so good! This is precise and on the nail. My body has told me it loves this regime for years. Why did I, why do we listen to social norms? I can't tell you the times I've been told by family and friends 'oh but it's not good to miss breakfast' or 'it's dangerous to fast'. And yet when I was a young adult I ate mostly vegetarian, avoided processed meats and carbs, went easy on the wine and fasted 16/8 plus the odd 1-2 days without even knowing it was a term. And I felt wonderful. Now I'm back, and a complete aficionado. Dr Majd, you rock!

Intermittent fasting is a lifestyle/eating habit. It's not a diet. You can do it for the rest of your life. You don't have to do it every day. If you decide you want to go out to dinner on a Friday night, and it is outside of your 8 hr frame, go ahead and do it, but don't overdo it, and just continue with the fasting the next following days.

This video was so informative and very broken down, well done! I’m 15 and 5’9 and I’m around 147lbs. I want to lose about 10- 15 pounds to be as fit and healthy as I can be (I’m a u17 club soccer player, so I’m a little nervous that it could affect my athletic performance), but a lot of my weight is muscle mass. Is this a safe way to melt off body fat pounds without affecting my muscle mass, and must one continue regular intermittent fasting after reaching their goal (instead of creating a low carb, unprocessed, healthy meal plan)?
@MajdMD
@MajdMD 4 жыл бұрын
It should not significantly affect your muscle mass unless you no longer have any fat to burn. And stopping it may cause weight gain -- i tell my patients to think of it as a lifestyle change. Now in someone like yourself without much weight to lose who is an athlete, you can simply convert to healthy/lower carb lifestyle once you've achieved your weight loss goal. But of course, since i don't know you personally or your health history, it would be prudent to always run everything by your doctor first.

Hello. I take metformin and I’m advised to take it with food due to the undesirable side effects... I am wanting to try the 24 hr fasting tho. That would mean I would only have 1 meal. And I take my medication 2 times daily. Any tips for that situation? (I want to do 24 hr fasting 2 days a week)
@MajdMD
@MajdMD 5 жыл бұрын
Paulina Velasco Metformin can cause diarrhea and stomach upset in some people, but not all - have you ever experienced that? That’s the reason it’s recommended with food. Otherwise, talk to your doctor about possibly switching you to an extended release version that is milder on the stomach. Last option, can be taken once daily on those fasting days only OR take with some plain leafy greens. I’d talk to your doc to determine which option is best for you first though.

Hello, I really appreciate the effort put into your videos, and hope you can answer a question for me. I recently started intermittent fasting, without much research and I follow a slightly different plan to the 3 you've listed. I am fasting on a 2:1 ratio, so I fast for 2 full days, and only eat on the 3rd day before returning to fasting for 2 days. On the 3rd day, I eat breakfast/lunch/dinner, but someone miss one of the meals. I must admit, I don't eat very healthily on the 3rd day, but I don't eat chocolate/sweets etc. I'm 24 years old, 5ft 11 and weighed 242lb when I started, and within 3 days, I had lost 6lb. I assume mostly stored water etc. Does eating badly on the 3rd day completely ruin my progress, or does the long fast im doing still have benefits due to the long duration? From dinner the night of the 3rd night, or breakfast 3 days later, I guess I fast for 60 hours, eat for 12 hours, and fast for a further 60 hours and so on. Thank you in advance.

I did IF for 2 months and lost 22 lbs. Mostly did 18/6, some 16/8 and 3 or 4 omad. I would do dessert right after eating almost always. Cake, ice cream, candy. I couldn’t believe I was losing weight even though I felt like I was overeating. I felt great. It’s very hard to do with my work schedule and when I went on vacation right after I still have not been able to get back on consistently. I subscribed because I need hearing about it to keep focused. Liked this video. You are very clear on what to do.

Can you eat fast food, or does it have to be healthy?
@MajdMD
@MajdMD 5 жыл бұрын
yohana espinoza I tell many of my patients to initially focus on getting used to the fasting schedule/timing of meals. Then once they’ve mastered that to gradually implement those “do’s and don’ts” of the food they’re consuming that I’ve listed in my PDF guide and reviewed some of in this video. With that said, an occasional cheat with fast food or other desirable food is fine. But it shouldn’t be daily. And if you’re attending a birthday celebration or party, by all means, don’t deprive yourself of the fun. But get back to the schedule the next day. Great Q, thank you for posting!

Right now I’m a stay at home dad and I plan on making all the food, but money is right and I’ll have to get some jobs that work at morning or night to get it done.
