Here’s a journaling idea my mother does: She has a burn journal where she puts down negative things that she needs to think through. This journal is a NO read journal. What she writes down, is never ever read by her again. Once she finishes the journal, she burns it. She also has a happiness journal that she writes in after she writes in her burn journal. It’s 100% only positive thoughts and it’s a great thing to read through later when you’re having a bad day. Do what works best for you, but I thought I’d share the idea because I’ve found this has helped my mother a lot. :)

I haven’t quit bullet journaling because I think I get more curious in it and Bullet journaling is those who like to design their own version of a planner of those who like art (including me of course). But don’t quit ,girl, You can come back to bullet journaling again.

Hey, Natalie this video really connected with me. I was going through a lot last fall and couldn't journal because I didn't want to deal with emotions and relive those feelings. Now, I journal when I feel like it instead of forcing myself to journal every day. It was an extra pressure that I put on myself. I agree, I'm very secretive about my journal and it's my friend that I tell everything to. I'm excited so about your journaling series! ❤

As someone who has been journaling in many different forms (daily, creative, art and scrapbook journaling for over 5 years) I love the way this is articulated. But I also think journaling is as hard as you make it, that is why I love journaling so much. It adapts and flows to be whatever I need in that moment. Also the name your brain thing is genius!!

this is honestly so helpful bc i’ve been wanting to get back into journaling after seeing so much cute & aesthetic content on instagram. i’ve journaled before but when i tried bullet journaling i eventually gave up on it bc i couldn’t keep up with it. it was a short lived adhd hyperfixation😅 i also am such a perfectionist it makes me avoid journaling bc it’s not aesthetic. i’m hoping finding the right journaling style for me would help be more consistent this year

Personally, actually quite contrary, I do journal about all the negative things going on in my life. I actually find it harder to journal about positive things because I almost view it as pointless and a waste of time because there’s no solution needed, everything’s fine (I think scrapbooking or a bullet journal can change that). However I do sometimes journal about positive things, and even when journaling about the negative, I compare it to how far I’ve come. When I journal about all the hard stuff, it’s like you said, I find a solution. And I feel better by just getting it out. That way, it’s not a ton of thoughts swimming around in my head, but all right there for me to analyze and come up with a solution. I don’t know I think it’s all about mindset.

Journaling helped me through my depression when I was dumped and thrown out of the house my former father in law had bought for us to build a future in, then going through chemo months later fighting ovarian Cancer alone with no emotional support except from the health care team I would see during my chemo. But I need to get back to it.

When I lost my mom, I found a combination of writing and therapy useful. I would write down the good memories and things I wanted to remember. Then I would talknthrough the challenges with my therapist.
