The popularity of kettlebells has experienced a surge in recent times. This is a good thing since more people will come to find out, how awesome this type of training equipment is. If you're just starting out with kettlebells and you consider yourself a beginner, we want to help you with this 10 Steps Beginner's Guide.
The 10 steps we're going to talk about in detail are the following:
1- Invest in a good kettlebell coach
It goes without saying that if you want to master anything, you probably have to talk to or visit somebody, who's already there where you want to go. Learning from your "sensei" in person in a 1-To-1 setting will serve you the best learning experience that money can buy.
2- Differentiate between exercise categories
Understanding the proper mechanics of kettlebell training, its implications and differences is crucial for you to understand it.
3- Start with the easy lifts first
The grinding lifts are easier to master and still will give you a lot of bang for your buck. A strong foundation with basic movements will help you segway into the ballistics in a smooth way.
4- Choose the right weight
Men and women should start with a set weight that doesn't go below 8 kg. Anything below 8 kg will have the tendency to warp the kettlebell training style - especially the ballistics - and maybe teach you unwanted behaviours, that you will have to re-program afterwards.
5- Choose the right size
Choosing the right kettlebell will help you improve faster in your technique. Stop adjusting your style for different kettlebell sizes and go with the best from the beginning.
6- Invest in a good kettlebell
If you're looking for high quality kettlebells, there's a price that you must pay in order to avoid having to pay double in the end. When it comes to training equipment, we believe that even starters, beginners and amateurs should use professional equipment from the get-go.
7- Neuromuscular gymnastics
You brain will have to do some complex gymnastics when it comes to kettlebell training. Your neuromuscular system for example must adapt and learn how to trigger muscle groups independently from eachother.
8- Be patient
Mastering a skill, a difficult exercise or something that is worth while investing time energy and maybe some of your finances, takes times. Being patient seems like a long and lost forgotten skill for most of us that needs proper "training" once more.
9- Proper Warm up & Mobility routine
In order to fully enjoy your kettlebell training, it's crucial for you to follow a stretching and mobility routine because most of us are tight in shoulder and hips joints.
10- Workout duration & frequency
How long a kettlebell workout can (or should) take depends upon your fitness level, technique and your goal. When it comes to frequency, we believe the frequency over the whole year matters more, than the frequency over the week.
Make sure to watch untill the end of the video to discover a bonus step that we consider as very important. This final step will help you clear up some confusion.

I bought a 6kg from Kmart but I bought it before looking up exercise videos on KZfaq. I have terrible posture and have problems with my hips and lower back. With grabbing sciatic pain around 3pm everyday at work, with achey neck too. That's why I wanted to try kettlebell. Did a little workout on Saturday, not really any sciatic pain today but a little in my hips and I could feel it in my muscles around that area thought it was just old age, then while walking the dog thought maybe not old age after all lol, got some benefit from my little workout. Will look at getting a proper kettlebell.

Great demonstration but I’m not comfortable leaning backwards as it would put stress on the lower back and spine. I think maintaining a more upright posture during the top of the swing or wrack rest forces the core to engage more and not stress the lower back. Legs straight knees locked back straight abs tight. But what do I know.
@lebe-stark

Thanks for commenting! A solid rack/ rest position bypasses the lower back and puts the brunt of the weight on your structure e.g. hips. - Gregory

Is the competition kettlebell more difficult for holding during the two-handed kettlebell swings compared to the standard kettlebell? The side-to-side measurement of the handle on the competition kettlebells seems tighter and "square'ish".

Great video. You have come a long way in your kettlebell knowedge. I give you my props. Im curious why you feel Kettlebell sport style is a better wy to train? I was introduced to hardstyle with Pavels material and given his expertise its hard to see past his recommendations or programs. I think this is unfortunate. I say that not because his information isnt excellent but rather because it tends to close your mind off to other methods that might even suit you better given an opportunity. Im curious why you feel kettlebell sport is better? I have played around with both and I find I enjoy sport better as it tends to relax me more and relieve stress better in the short term.

Hi. I have a question I think you might be able to answer. I badly dislocated my right shoulder 10 weeks ago. Im having surgery in 4 weeks to repair it. Iv continued to use my Kbells . Normally on the left side and have continued to do the same amount of weight and reps on the right. But only 1 handed swings to keep things even. (Sought ov ). My question is. Post surgery. Right side will be in a sling for 8 weeks. Would it be good or bad to to work out with only one side coursing an imbalance or wait till after my rehabilitation. Hope your well love your channel. Have a good day. I’m off for a swing while I can. Long comment. Sorry

Hi Lebe Stark, I have just discovered Kettlebells and have read (and seen) really great things about them in how they can help burn fat and lose weight. I have just purchased my first kettlebell (16kg) and think I may have bought the wrong weight suitable for women (although I have read on some websites written by fitness experts that women can start with 16kg for some lifts (like the ones that you showed) and swings like the Russian kettlebell swing. Rather than returning the kettlebell to Amazon, is there any tips that you can give to help me persevere with the 16kg kettlebell and to get used to the weight prior to doing any swings. Any advice will be greatly appreciated and many thanks in advance for reading this reply.

Always talk to your therapist or doctor first before engaging in any kind of training after surgery. The kettlebell is a great tool to stabilize your mid-section and it may benefit you greatly. Yet it is crucial that your body has enough time to recover first so consider the advice of your doc before picking up your kettlebell. I'm sure you can make great use of them when your body has fully recovered. :) - Gregory

Was waiting to hear how many sets and how many reps for each exercise. All I heard was length of time. Individuals do not all move at the same speed. However, anyone that moves a weight through a circuit of motion can count. That is critical, need to know, information that is not in your video. I need to know sets and reps for each exercise. Otherwise, the video is basically useless.

I do the hard style ONLY using only Weider cast iron bells. Some of them have rough handles or "repaired" handles when I thought I's buyin them new! but I kept them. I think I'll stop at 50 lbs. I'm WHITE 6'2" and 167 lbs (was 202 lbs 3 months ago but I've made a lot of changes in diet, fasting and getting sick to drop all that weight quickly).
