Confidence, just that. Having lived in Canada for 20 years and still thinking twice whether or not to speak, makes the living harder than necessary. Being able to join an improv theater, strike a conversation with a person of any walk of life. But most importantly, to fully enjoy my own speaking and not kick myself every time with "oh, I should have said it this way, or I could have said this rather than just smiling and nodding".

I've been living in the US for almost two years. I got to the point where I felt like my English wasn't improving and I got stuck in my learning process. I didn't even realize it, but I'd lost my motivation a long time ago. I quit studying, and I just kept navigating through my academic and social life expecting to magically improve. It is so discouraging, especially when you get to Advanced level and proficiency seems unattainable. My biggest mistake was to forget my reasons for learning English. I just started to develop an aversion. Instead of considering an opportunity, the language was an arbitrary barrier. It took me this long to remind myself that motivation IS the most important thing to have in mind when learning a new language. Don't ever forget it. If you are here, your effort IS WORTH IT. Keep practicing, you'll achieve your goals.

I think the most important thing is having a strong why and sticking to your goal no matter what happens. This is what self-discipline means. A harsh truth about life, if you are not able to disciplin yourself, nobody is gonna give you the life you want to have. So stop complaining, start working. Thanks for the video :3

1041... I remember in a previous lesson, you said learning english has three pillars. one is knowledge, two is practice, three is confidence.... using it ... is quite inspiring... whenever, I watch a video that I think is well made.... I watch it again and again, and try to learn the way the youtuber organized the video, and the expression that he used....Learning english systematically and keep using the new stuff that have just learnt can improve my speaking bit by bit...

I want to feel secure while I'm speaking with natives speakers, without the fear of being judged or pointed out as a foreigner unprepared student. I want to be able to speak out loud my ideas, express myself in the most natural way. I want to speak with my tutor in college without being anxious, the same with a doctor in an appointment, the same with my daughter's teachers or with any institutionalised professional. I always think that I don't have enough academic or businesses English to talk with that kind of person. Maybe I do have some but I'm not convinced enough to make the most of my knowledge flows in those kind of situations. 🙈

I've always liked studying 'cause I used to listen to English songs a lot when I was a teenager. Years were passing by and I decided to study English, however, I confess I didn't have any goal in my mind. I liked English a lot and that was enough. Nowdays, I wanna understand what native English speakers speak about, of course I wanna improve the others skills, but listening is the most important to me. I've been trying to study everyday 'cause I know it's so important, but sometimes I get frustrated when I watch a movie or a tv series and I don't understand anything at all. I was like I've studied English for a long time and I can't see good results. I know it's a hard job and I can't give up that's why I'm here... Thanks for helping me and each video I see I feel more motivated. See you!

I have several reasons for learning English. One of those is I want to gain the knowledge and information not only from my mother language but also from many other cultures because English is the most global language in the world so that would be the most effective tool for me. Secondly, I want to make my life more wonderful, that means if I handled this powerful global language there would be more and more chance that I can get. For instance job opportunities, travel around the world and speak out the things what you thought anywhere. Thirdly, I think this is my most favorite reason, that if you want to change yourself, or you want to change the life that you are fed up, first from learning English that would help you to broaden your way and when you make some choice in your life it will give you more confidence. English is just a tool for our life, not the all-the-thing, but if we master it very freely that will give us more surprise than what we expected.

Good afternoon Harder, the reason why I want to improve my english language is because I have just completed my BA degree in social work and I about to look for a job and think is the right time for me to be fluent in english so that I can be able to communicate with my colleagues without any fear because of the language barrier.

Thanks for your tips, I decided I can't go on pretending to study English. My plan had been to restart to learn like a baby, the first one to listen and try to recognize the Words, short sentence, after speaking easy words, common sentences, then to get in touch with grammar rules and specific topics.

I’m a math teacher and I’m learning English because I enjoy traveling and because my dad always told me that knowledge doesn’t take up any space! I’m from Brazil, so my mother tongue is Portuguese, but I speak English and Spanish. I speak English with native speakers on the Internet five times a week, 30 minutes each time!
