Ready for winter? Me neither, but this video will definitely help you fight the cold. Watch it to see what materials keep you warm and how to always look well put together this winter.
To create this capsule I used 58 fashion principles and methods from the Wonder Wardrobe course. Although I didn’t include that many items, this wardrobe came out to be fully interchangeable and very versatile. Let me know in the comments how many styling principles do you apply when creating your wardrobe.
💟 WoW Styling Course & Coaching: bit.ly/4b2rGNc
The sustainable winter wardrobe includes 7 tops, 6 bottoms, 1 blazer, 1 cardigan, 2 dresses, 2 pairs of shoes, a bag, and 2 winter jackets. When I mix all these items together I get 44 interchangeable outfits that don’t involve any layering, 10 outfits that are styled with a blazer, 24 outfits that are layered with sweaters, and 24 outfits that can be worn with a cardigan.
What keeps you warm, yet stylish every winter? Let me know in the comments!

If you didn't want to mention individual brands/prices you still could've included the total price of this purchase so people can get an indication of what a capsule like this would cost. It'll be helpful when budgeting, so it's a practical guideline. You don't even have to give an exact price, you could give a price range. The first thing I thought when I saw some of the products was "I guess I'm gonna be cold this winter cause the pricing is pretty high". It's a little discouraging to not have a budget guideline when you're on a tighter budget. You could've even added tips including cheaper fabrics that might not be as warm as individual pieces, but when combined can keep you warm (a bit like when you mentioned layering of fabrics). It would've been helpful if you mentioned the typical price range of each product, and give tips on how to buy good quality products which are cheaper. Other than that the video was good.

The day I first watched this video, I fell in love with that beige puffer/coat, but when I found out how much it was, I thought I really could not afford it. The same day, I went to a thrift store and found a very similar pale brown puffer jacket with lapels for 2€ in great condition. If I hadn't seen the video, I wouldn't have reached for it, but I did. It's perfect and I'm all set for the winter. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think some people are confusing "ethical clothing" with "cruelty-free." Ethical clothing lines have everything to do with the human beings who create these pieces and that these ethical clothing brands make certain the workers are paid fair wages and work in good conditions.

Now I understand why I felt like I 'had nothing to wear' when I had a closet full of clothes: I got overwhelmed with too many options. I have brought it down to only the clothes I love and it's much easier to get dressed. For warmth, I mostly use two cardigans which combine with everything - and they have pockets!

This is probably the most versatile and wearable capsule wardrobe example I’ve ever seen. I’ve just lost 95% of my clothes to a storage unit fire. Fortunately, I have been travelling for the past few months so I have some of my summer clothing, workout clothes and a pair of dungarees as my warm layer with me but I’m due to go back to the UK in a few weeks and will need to get winter clothes ASAP. This video has really calmed me down and helped me decide what types of pieces to prioritise. I’m not a fan of shopping cause I never know what I’m looking for. Now that wont be a problem. THANKS!!!

Hi Daria. For many years I've been changing my shopping habits, buying less and what I need, finding my true style, creating a versatile wardrobe and including more and more garments made out of natural fibres. Along with a shift in my mindset, my lifestyle and my well being, I'm happy to see that my wardrobe feels a lot more like your capsule wardrobes. Now, I have so much fun dressing up because I can mix and match most of my clothes, I can have fun with colours, I feel comfortable and confident. I admire your unique sense of style and I really identify with your holistic approach to fashion : it's about colours, fabrics, shapes, but also the animals and the plants, the people who made the garment, their working conditions, the way we care for our clothes, how they make us feel, what they express about us and how we conjugate fashion with our values and ethics. Thank you, the video is excellent.

True, if I'm going to continue living in the mid Atlantic United States, I need to reconsider my minimalist wardrobe. I was trying to use clothing items year round but it's not practical. I need winter only clothes.😩 Thermals and tights help with layering, but I need to be realistic about fabric

In winter I interchange between an ankle boot, and a lace-up shoe (Oxford/brogue style). I buy new versions every few years (eg, Black patent brogues this year, and black/rose gold Alexander Wang split-heel ankle boots), but keep my old winter shoes so I have variety and backup. I get protective soles on good shoes, and get older ones resoled/reheeled to prolong their life. Each pair lasts me many many years, and looks good throughout its lifetime. I take a similar approach to winter jackets...I always have a wool jacket and a down jacket in my wardrobe, and update every few years (hanging on to the old ones for variety and backup).

I am very impressed by this capsule! 😍 Last year I have discovered two pairs of retro woolen trousers. One I got from second hand and another one from the bottom of aunts closet. I wasnt expecting anything, but I was impressed how warm I got while wearing them. I did not even need thermal underwear I would usually wear with basic trousers from todays shop. 😊 Material really matters 😉

I think one blazer and one cardigan are not enough for a winter season. Although I don't live in a cold place (centre Italy) I never could wear only a shirt and don't be terribly cold, more knitted pieces are necessary.
@lunasanja4574
@lunasanja4574 5 жыл бұрын
yeah, I mean.. you would have to dryclean or wash the pieces frequently.. given the general decline of quality even in middle-to highend pieces I doubt that would be a good idea to the clothes..
@nmcclymont
@nmcclymont 5 жыл бұрын
I think the point is that these pieces are versatile and this capsule is a place to start. Virtually everyone already has some clothing already that they would keep as they transition to a warmer climate, new size, a style more in keeping with your chosen aesthetic, new lifestyle, or a more sustainable wardrobe. Knowing all of those options work with 1 cardigan tells you something about the qualities any additional cardigans would need to be as useful in the same wardrobe. Lots of people wear uniforms and have multiples of pieces they wear often.

I never miss your vids! Here in Argentina, where I'm from, it's extremely difficult (and sometimes practically impossible) to find clothes made out of natural fibers. The fast fashion market here is massive, and clothes in general are very expensive (this doesn't really affect me all that much, but it does impact negatively on most people). I feel like more people could use all of these info!

Wow! This was inspiring! It's amazing how many good-looking outfits one can create with a handful of carefully selected pieces. I loved the camel and red pieces you included! As for how I keep warm...I can get away with layering pieces of different weights and materials because it doesn't get really cold where I live. It rarely goes below 20 F (-7 C)...If I layer my outfit with knee-high boots, socks, thermals, a wool coat, hat, gloves, and a large scarf, I'm plenty warm. My favorite "winter must haves" are the kind no one sees: silk underpinnings that keeps me toasty but do not make me sweat. Oh, and I also love my wool socks, because I hate when my feet get cold! Thanks for the video and the fabulous outfits!

Today it was very cold (the first day lower than 10° C since April probably) and I wore my wool-camelhair coat (secondhand) with underneath a viscose-nylon-polyester jumper and I FELT it. I went somewhere with my bike and was insanely sweaty when I came back. I told my mom it was because it's a synthetic jumper, she didn't believe me but it's a great reminder to invest in some wool items next winter. For now, I don't have the money though and the (synthetic) 'wool' jumpers I have are still in great condition. Also, I have some corduroy pants and even though they aren't the greatest quality (H&M...) they are so soft and warm and really feel amazing. I felt a bit guilty after buying something from H&M, but it's only october and they're already in great rotation. Edit: I LOVE THIS CAPSULE - I'm serious. Maybe it's just because I am an autumn and they're a lot of autumn colours in there (for obvious reasons) but I also really love the styling: Put-together, not too boring, and a lot of nice waist-cinching.

Hey there, I'm from Canada and we usually have the temperature ranges from 15 deg C to 4 deg C during the day, I share the pain of overheating in the cold with you. My small tip would be to wear a cotton base layer under your poly jumper to wick off the sweat and opt for a windbreaker shell (lined leather jacket, jeans or parka) instead of a heavy wool coat if you plan to be active in the cold: biking, walking instead of driving.

@@gittevandevelde2208 Do you have access to vintage for thrift stores? They tend to stock tons of vintage leather, sherpa denim, sport jackets at a very reasonable price (here in Canada about 50-60$ for a good brand). They look hella cute with a retro vibe, too. If you prefer new, I recommend looking into a discount website. I have good experience at Thelasthunt which is a sister site of another Canadian e-commerce Altitude Sports specializing in outdoor/hiking equipment.
@gittevandevelde2208

@@ThaoNguyen-hl6mb There are some thrift stores, yes, but they are basically just normal clothes from normal people who donated it (aka not the most interesting stuff as people are generally boring where I live. I got the cotton underlayers from there, for example) or very vintagy stores. The main problem with both is that I am very thin (small-running XS) and the biggest size I can wear without absolutely drowning is an S, and even smalls are difficult to find secondhand particularly in jackets (which most people tend to buy a little oversized) Most jackets are a medium at least and they're just way too big for me. Not oversized, just ridiculously big. The wool coat I mentioned is a UK 10 (or small) (I have a UK 4 - 6) and thrifted and I'm lucky it has a belt, otherwise it would have been a no. I have an uncommon bodytype for my country were rising rates of obesity is a thing.

Skinny joggers with thermals keep me warm on the coldest days. Also a thin silky neck scarf over my top and another chunky wool scarf on the outside of my coat help keep the worst days of winter at bay. I'm not feeling the blanket hate of man made fibers..because there's all kinds of high tech ones these days, some that wick moisture, some that keep you cool. It's so cool that you can make so many different outfits from so few garments. But personally I have a handful (about 9) of 'go to' looks each season that are just the right amount.
@gittevandevelde2208
@gittevandevelde2208 5 жыл бұрын
I agree mad-made fivers aren't all bad, they were invented once for a reason. But the high-tech ones are generally still hard to find, very expensive or not on-point yet. The synthetics that is easily available is generally still the sweaty, but not that warm, plastic-leeching trash.

Do you know any brands or does that inspire you for a video? I'm really curious! Thanks so much for your channel, it's the best I've found about capsule wardrobe and ethical clothing!

@Louise I recommend PAQ channel. They are a show about streetwear and they have been collaborating/promoting relevant brands as well. I love their energy.

Incredibly helpful. I love my silk under layer and am going to purchase a couple of cashmere sweaters as they are warm but also light, pack easily and can be dressed up or down. Love your channel.

This capsule looks great, as always. But with all the cruelty going in to down and leather i can't support the materials. If you would like to get these materials, a second hand shop would be a good alternative to avoid causing more suffering.

Hey Daria, we traditionally use unwashed sheep wool! It is the warmest I have ever seen, far warmer than Cashmere. Vests of unwashed sheepwool are worn by rheutmatic people. pd: it does not smell much of sheep ;)

I give you props for the effort as the video is quite clean and informative. I will say however that I disagree with the your points about syntactic clothing. I feel there's a lot of relatively new textile technology that gives us comfort, warmth, style, affordability and practically (a lot of them you don't even need to iron). And of course, some of them can be more environmentally friendly than natural alternatives. Adicional, the style is so far removed from mine and what's used by a lot of young people that I honestly didn't feel very excited when you showed all the outfits. But that's more of a question of taste I guess.
