good question. if you're hunting with two dogs and you say "fetch" or "go" or something along those lines, your dog (or the other) may be confused and go on the retrieve. if your go word is their name, the other dog won't go because i imagine you wont be hunting two dogs at the same time with the same name.

Bob, I left this message on the "How to crate train a puppy", wasn't sure if you would see the question since it's an older video. This question isn't about this video. I am in the process of researching getting a new pup. I am considering the exact same kennel setup you have there (size, colors, camo... you have good taste :-) ). I don't want to spend money on multiple crates as the pup gets older/larger (Buy once cry once. Gunner is an awesome product, but they're proud). What do you use as a divider in that kennel since Gunner doesn't have that option?

hey thanks for following up. if they're real small, we don't use an intermediate sized gunner-- that's just what was closest when we were going to make the video. we'll use either a wire cage style kennel or a small gunner. apologies for the confusion, that was poor judgement to use that kennel rather than a smaller one. that said, i agree... gunners are awesome and worth saving up for.

I can get my 8 month silver lab to steady but when I let go of collar she seems to not want to fetch or somehow thinks I still want her to keep sitting. .. any idea why? or advice?

Also, I don’t think she is not excited enough. When I don’t steady she will retrieve all day and want more. (In water and on land) my thought is that she is confused ?

What’s the reason you don’t give corrections with the ecollar when he breaks?
@whysoserious86
@whysoserious86 10 ай бұрын
Short easy answer would be they'll start popping or no going. Don't want them associating being corrected with retrieving.

@@whysoserious86 so an ecollar correction would be viewed as more harsh by the dog vs a leash correction?
@whysoserious86
@whysoserious86 10 ай бұрын
@guitarded13 Well, there are a lot of variables. Did the dog just go through forcing? Is it doing force to pile work etc? Will their first reaction when they feel that correction be to dig in and go? Idk where this dog is in their training but it appears to be a young dog. And it's prob not been long since it went through force training. With this dog giving a collar correction (and you'd have to go high enough to make your point) would muddy the water with it wanting to go after the mark. It would prob start popping, or giving no go's because it's thinking shit, last time I went to go after that mark I got that correction.

@guitarded13 And this is my initial thoughts. I am a trainer, but no where near on Bob's level. He may have different thoughts on this. But I would think giving ecollar corrections for breaking would mess with the dogs head this early on in their training. I've seen Who I train under do the same thing with older dogs that have 1 or more plates and titled master hunters. And never using the ecollar. Now there are exceptions, and I've witnessed those as well. But only on older dogs that are done with swim by, tpattern, forcing, etc.
