To be fair Billy Hamilton drop steps when stealing but I completely agree with Nick. You can completely accelerate within a couple of steps when running as Nick advised

Do a video about stealing on a righty vs lefty pitcher and watching the back and front feet on a righty, etc.

When stealing second, to get your best jump you need to also watch the pitcher’s back foot. If the heel (RHP) or the toe (LHP) lifts, he’s picking. If they stay down, he’s pitching.

good video, I have a question about the first step into a steal. I have recently read about how a drop step with the lead foot WITH a forward lean toward second can create a faster break into top speeds which actually decreases time instead of adding time as was mentioned by Nick. Just want to hear some thoughts on this.

I’ve always thought the same but all the knowledgeable people I’ve talked to say to eliminate the drop/jab however if you look at the fastest base runners they all do it 🤷‍♂️

My son shaved .12s off his 10 yard sprint by using the drop step. Went from 1.58 to 1.46. Other players noticed his time and after he showed them what he did, they also shaved considerable time off their 10s. Like most things in life, what works for one person doesn't always work for another. But check out Dave Roberts. His most famous stolen base was against the Yankees in 2004. He does a drop step, or jab step. Roberts was a pretty good base stealer so...

Would you say its too late for someone like myself to start playing baseball for the very first time entering his 11th grade year? I have not played baseball for a school or club but I do have a lot of knowledge of the game. I also know the basic fundamentals of the game such as catching, fielding, and hitting. My goal is to one day get drafted out of college. I would love to know from someone like Coach Madden!

Jonathon Cano it's never too late to play baseball! However your goal may be a little hard to reach but nothing is impossible!

Jonathon Cano ok it is a pretty hard thing to hit a baseball especially in high school for the first time so if you really wanna play baseball I'd tryout as a pitcher then you probably wouldn't play that much and you can learn from coaches starting pitchers and you can turn yourself into a starter and since you're in 11th grade after you graduate from hs you can even take a year off and not go to college for only one year and then go to a batting cage work on your swing and get a pitching coach and then go to maybe a small college (not a community college) and then walk on there and play baseball as a pitcher that way you're going up against not as good competition then when you feel like you're ready you can transfer to a d1 school then go up for the draft when you're ready get drafted (because you will there's like 1000 picks in MLB) then even if you go to the milb work your way up to triple a if you're not already there and then your affiliated team will definitely call you up maybe not that first year but the second year they probably will because pitchers land on the dl a lot so yeah

Thank you guys for the reply! I know how to hit a baseball. I've been to the cages before and have hit a baseball anywhere from 60-70mph. I plan on going to community college or a small university my first year then to transfer to my local university which is a much bigger and know university in ASU. I do plan on going to the cages more often to get better at hitting and to practice more on grounding, fielding, catching. The position I am looking to play is 1B, 2B or 3B.

you could try taking your mask and glove to the batting cages. I've seen a couple of guys do it before, but I suggest you ask whoever is at the desk for permission so there isn't any problems.
