Today I will show you a quick and effective techniques to sample kick drums from any track. This is a great way to ensure your kick has perfect low end for maximum impact in the club! This technique will work in Ableton, FL Studio, Cubase, Logic, any DAW you like.

Take reference song, find a clean kick, not the very first one. Loop it and crop in Simpler to leave just kick then hat. Check the key of the kick using Notes preset in Spectrum. Transpose up 12 semi-tones. Spectrum says the fundamental frequent is A. Most kicks are F, F sharp, G , G sharp or A. Then filter kick to just hear the sub. Then filter envelope section on simpler and turn on and bring amount up to 72 and fine tune decay amount. About done. Then can add a top kick. High cut to leave the top click. Can add a 48db cut at 110/120 hz to remove any sub info. Then put both kicks together and adjust to balance. Audition the top kick to find a good match.

Agree mate. There are other ways, but I value simple and fast over perfection! 👌 I'd rather have a finished track than a perfectly sampled kick 😂

Its way better imho to copy the kick to a 2nd Channel and invert the Phase of the 2nd Kick + crop away the Attack transient. Then use a linear phase High Pass EQ/Filter on the 2nd Kick to remove the hat. Done ;-)

Hey man, thanks for the comment. I agree, that you will get a cleaner result for sure. I always try to priorities speed of perfection when I'm producing. I want to get into a flow state where I'm just racing through the creative process. I find if I spend time messing around I can loose that, so I tend to opt for whatever is quickest. I can always go back and fix it later, but to be honest, I normally don't with this.

Sometimes i spend a day searching and collecting Sounds. So i split the process of sampling and songwriting anyway ;-) imho it is harder to find good sounds than mixing. But i agree that wasting time on tweaking can become a Problem! Anyway it is nice to know more ways to your goal :-)

You can get a lot more envelope control using Sampler over Simpler, but I’ve been using the same technique to get my kick

Personally I prefer to use Simpler, for the simplicity (how ironic). But Simpler and Sampler are actually the same device with a different interface. If you right click of the top of the device there is a menu option Sampler to Simpler, and vice versa.

Another (and IMO better) way is to just use kick2 and recreate the kick. You can import the kick and view the wave form to line everything up perfectly. Now, it's yours no matter which way you look at it and you have complete control over the kick and any additional changes you want to make with it. Also, something a lot of people overlook is you can make a custom off kick that's much shorter and defined in the sound you want it to make.

I have tried this a bunch of times and honestly it never sounds even close. I followed the video demonstration by Sonic Academy but it just never sounded right for me. In fact, it always sounded like 💩 and took forever! Guess I'm doing something wrong! 😂😂😂

Hey bro, nice tip. I tried this, however when I reference my kick compared to the track i stole it from, below 30hz is cut off with a 48db slope. In the reference I stole the kick from it looks like a 24 db slope and that's using your span settings to analyse it at the same LUFS? There is no EQ, fades or processing of any kind on the track or before the analyzer? your help will be greatly appreciated. cheers Jojo

Hello man the sample extracted are already limit or mastered i wonder if its affect quality if i use in my song and mastered again?

Take a look at the waveform. If it looks like a sausage then find another sample 😂 No, but jokes aside, use your ears and your judgement. If it sounds good then go for it. I have seen kicks from sample packs that look like a square brick.
