A pro tip from my husband who is a chef is to rinse fish that smells "fishy" in cold water. It will freshen the fish meat and give it a milder flavor.

Money saving freezer bag tip: If you have lots of small portions of meat (I like to do taco meat in 1lb portions), use sandwich baggies to separate portions, and then toss ALL of your sandwich baggies into ONE gallon freezer bag.

I do this too! For burgers, broth, ravioli/tortellini, shrimp, scallops, crab - anything really that I might want to pull by servings. When doing this, I still put the quantity of servings on the baggies but also the weight of each serving and the calories for each serving

I was raised this way. Shopping for EVERYTHING ON SALE when possible, then prepping/storing/cooking for now and later. It works SO well for families of ANY size. I used to do it when living alone and didn't know how to cook "small". I had meals for months! I shared. LOL! We also season some of what we freeze. It makes for that much less to do and the meal tastes GREAT!

Working solo mum of three here. Buying in bulk on sale and freezing is a life saver! Saves $ and more importantly for me, saves time. I buy meat on special, divide into portions and freeze it. I also buy veges on special, chop, blanche and freeze those too. Then one every 6 weeks or so, I take a weekend afternoon and cook in bulk. Meat, sauce, and veges. Simple food I know the kids will eat, like nacho mix or spaghetti/Italian mix etc. Then I freeze the meals in portions. So on an ordinary weeknight, when I've worked all day and it's 6pm and I need dinner on the table now. I just have to cook some carbs (microwave jacket potatoes, rice, nacho chips, mashed potatoes etc), and quickly thaw a frozen meal in the microwave. It's cheaper coz I buy in bulk on sale, and saves time in the long run. Plus I know we're eating good home cooked food, but it only takes me 15-20 minutes to get a hot meal on the table. #winning

I always add where I get it (Costco, Smith's, Walmart, etc). Because then if there's a recall, I can know if I have any of that recalled meat.

I LOVE this video, practical kitchen wisdom. I’m a big fan of stocking up on meats in this way. I have an old deep freezer that refuses to die and I’m so grateful. That thing has served us WELL! I keep a stockpile of various sizes of freezer bags too. While my hubby was in the hospital I had my niece come by and help me cook up 10 lbs of ground turkey to freeze. It is so great to just grab what you need for a quick dinner! 😊👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😊

Love these videos! As there's only two of us, I've found that we usually end up needing to stock up on meat about once a month and as we're in the big super market I usually get the big blocks of cheese/misc long shelf items and the canned stuff (25p for chopped tomatoes? Yes pls) I've started having my boyfriend come with me to help lug everything home (we're like a 10/15 minute walk from the shops but with groceries it's like 20 - 30!) And he's learnt all the basics mentioned here and graduated to planning the meals this week and I'm super proud of him! :) He usually does the cooking bc he's a lot better at it than me but having him plan it - so many more ideas for recipes! Like obv we have the "what do you want to eat this week?" Convo and there's usually a spag bol or chilli every week bc they're easy and we always have the stuff in but he's out here throwing in some meatballs and tacos and pies and I'm like 😍 variety 😍 but also I think he might be trying to impress me and tbh I'm HERE for it 💕

Two weeks ago my grocery store had a flat of 15lbs of different cuts/types for $38 dollars. They had different boxes for different cooking styles like crockpot and grilling. It’s helped a lot with our own shelf cooking experiment! I also tend to get two of things when I buy them, but I’m definitely going to try the three at once! And I’m super looking forward to your cookbook!

You have help me and my family save so much money on my groceries. I used to go shopping like every 2 weeks and would spend close to $200-300 every time and to just end up throwing away half of the stuff because it would go bad before we coulr get to it, but now I meal plan and just buy what I need. Thank you so much.

I'm so glad she made this vid. I do all these things already, but I do take a day or two out each month to cook meals/side dishes ahead and vacuum seal them. Later all I have to do is pull things out of the fridge and pop in the microwave. Or if I'm already cooking something I make a large amount to vacuum seal for later. People look at me like I'm crazy, but if they only knew how much time it saves. Plus, no matter what we want for dinner it's already ready. So if we want something different each I don't have to cook separate meals!

TIP!!!! If you do not own a vacuum sealer simply fill the sink with water and dip the half close zip-lock bagged item into the water being very careful to keep the open end above the water. The water pressure will push the air out and you can seal/zip it before lifting it out of the water. Make sure you dry the outside of the bags and mark them before putting into freezer so you don't created ice to stick the bags together!!!

+Lindsey Poyner yes and I love them! I’ve been keeping up with her cabin updates lately too (instant pot chicken, salsa verde etc) but what I always wanted to see from her and what she’s never done is a full week of recipes/meals for her family. Just because she shares her grocery haul for the week or however long and meal planning but we only see meals on specific days (or freezer meals), but not how the groceries turn into meals she cooks, if that makes sense. I really hope she does one (or something similar) soon.

I'm amazed at how quiet and well-behaved her 8 children are when she looks beautiful doing all of this! I did invest in food grade silicone bags because I'm afraid of all the plastic we already eat with how our food comes. I did this last week and it worked out great - as in cooked and separated meat to freeze. Very helpful idea.

I spend waaaaay too much on groceries 😭😭 but we live in Alaska where food prices are high. And I have two children with very opposite food allergies and have to prepare 2-3 meals every mealtime. I’ve tried to cut down and budget better for groceries but I can’t seem to cut down nearly as much as I want to. I’m guilty of not cooking what I have on hand at times, however.

Love the content. Just a friendly suggestion: it might be worth changing up your intro. I think it could be a fun chance to have it represent new aspects of your channel

Yes I have thought that too. Or a lot of KZfaqrs that I’ve been watching for a while, don’t even do their intro thing anymore they just start out with an intro of what that video is about and then dive into it. I really like that approach even better.

I always skip the intro video's. I did read somewhere that they should be maximum of 10 seconds or else people find them annoying

Loved the tip of pre-cooking the ground beef....easy meals on days when I'm more tired for the win! I sometimes cut up large hunks o' meat like that roast so they'll defrost faster.

Tip: Label your grocery bag with the meat and date on masking tape. Saves time so u don't have to look inside the bag when digging through the deep freezer.

Great tips! Esp the advice to stock up little by little each trip. I’ve been trying to find a used or cheap freezer for a couple of years but everyone definitely jacked their prices up this year! Should’ve bit the bullet sooner! ... I’d love to see your pork recipes; I didn’t grow up eating it and am only now learning how to cook it well.

Yeah I was wondering what your kids were doing all that time 🤣 I love the tip of half the budget towards food storage and half toward fresh weekly foods, that's a helpful guideline. I'll have to try it!

Great video... I do a lot of these, but have never thought about actually cooking the ground beef and freezing it. I will have to try that. Ground beef was about the only meat that I don’t freeze because I don’t like how it looks when it thaws and it looks different when it’s cooked so I’ll try cooking it and then freezing. Great video.
