Hi there, Liron here!
Today I'll show you one way / trick to avoid overmixing your watercolors.
This will probably be the most relevant to people like me, who tend to mix a lot of grays and end up with too muted a painting.
What you'll learn is to use 3 primary colors (or more), without mixing at all.
By using pure yellows, reds and blues, you'll preserve the richness of hue and temperature, and avoid a dull painting.
Reference photos:
1. Onions - pixabay.com/photos/onions-veg...
2. Plums - pixabay.com/photos/plums-box-...
3. Avocado - pixabay.com/photos/avocados-f...
4. Apples - pixabay.com/photos/apple-red-...
Time-Stamps:
00:00 - You may be overmixing your watercolors
00:25 - Don't Mix
05:12 - Plums in Blue, Yellow & Red
07:23 - Avocados - Handling Greens
11:01 - Apples
Enjoy 🙏

Wow. I love this video so much! I don’t think I’ve ever used unmixed colors and let them mix together on paper, and the results are amazing. So vibrant! Also, you explain the value of doing this so well, as usual. Would love to see more of these “undermixing” videos.

Interesting… now that the colours have lightened on the onions as they dried, I would love to see you take this to its conclusion by adding more darks. ❤

Love those onions! I think this is where your 'dirty' palette comes into its own, because the colours are already slightly muted with all the beautiful complexity that involves

Surprisingly effective results, without having to be uptight. Could you be able to paint a red apple sitting on say a bright yellow surface with the yellow reflecting back into the core shadow of the apple? I don’t know if watercolor can achieve this.
@LironYan
@LironYan 4 ай бұрын
Yes! Definitely possible. I’d go as far as to say watercolor can do anything (: In my experience, it has to do with (1) Your ability to even NOTICE the surface reflects that bright light onto the apple (2) Your control of the medium. The first one is not to be underestimated. By the way, check out this video of my painting “Making Pesto”, it shows this same effect: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y9yXg9N-rauZg6s.htmlsi=VSs6z3f0VRhwMUVr Look at the bottom of the kettle (:

The muddy water you have on the mixing area of the palette seem to defeat the object of this tutorial by dulling the colours you put on the painting.
